Mrs. Richard Doolin, 421 Drackert street, is entertaining Mrs. Staub and Mrs. Williamson of Ulooniington, 111. Mr, and Mrs. Thos. Harle have purchased the heme of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Wilson on May street and will take possession as soon as the new Wilson home on Katon street is completed. Georg-e Austgen, one of Calumet avenue's plumbing contractors, who has no doubts as to the future of the East Side, is receiving bids for a. three story store and flat building to be erected this spring at S31-Su5 Calumet avenue. Born to C. Atchison of S62 Indiana avenue, a daughter, who has received the name of Betty Lou. Mrs. W. Gibbons and son of Chicago are guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Downey. The Winer Manuf acturing company are moving their factory from Crown Point to the Wolf buildinp. Calumet and Sibley streets. They will be open for business in this light commodious location, next Monday for the manufacture of overalls and Jackets.

Mrs. 11. I. Powli-y entertained the General Aid of First M. K. church yesterday afternoon at her home on Eaton street with a very goud attendance. The musical program was rendered by Miss Adele Iunbar and Mre. Howard Ul!z. Rev. Wm. Rist gave a very good talk. Dainty refreshments were bc-rv-ed by the hostess. The fifth division had an apron sale disposing of every one. A bazaar is planned for the. near future. Mrs. Harry Nelson of Bauer street who has been on the sick list is improving rapidly. GERMANY PROTESTS AGAINST TROOPS TXNTOX, March 17. Germany today protested to the allies against the massing of Polish troops on the German frontier. The protest was contained in a note which was received from Berlin. Poland is reported to have concentrated large forces of troops on the border of Upper S.lesia where a plebiscite will be held on Sunday to determine whether thij territory will continue under the German flag or -be annexed by Poland.

Th police charged the crowd with batons, but order was not restored until troops were called out.
