If you work for a manufacturer or sell him anything on which you make a profit you are a manufacturer, too! No man can be a manufacturer all by himself. The men who work in his factory, the men who sell him raw materials and supplies of every sort, the railroads who transport his goods all of these HELP him to be a manufacturer. And, if YOU are helping some man to be a manufacturer, YOU, for all practical purposes, are a manufacturer, also. ...

The Bottom of It In the turbulent days through which we .have passed, we were apt, all of us, to criticize the manufacturer or the jobber or the retailer because prices were TOO high or something else was wrong. There may have been many abuses and doubtless were but, in the main, men who have built business, and intended to stay in business, were basing their prices on their actual and fair costs, with a reasonable profit. And a large part of that cost was and is for LABOR. So in criticizing the price of an article, we may, without realizing it, have ALSO been criticizing the price of the LABOR that helped to determine the COST of the article.

sonable profit, we were likewise trying to bring down the price paid for LABOR. All of us were more or less restles3 all felt that prices needed some kind of readjustment And, thinking perhaps that the manufacturer was at fault, we QUIT BUYING. Well, maybe he WAS somewhat at fault, but we've learned something right along with that. When we criticize the manufacturer, we are criticizing ourselves for we helped make high prices by accepting a high price for what we had o sell! We know now that we can't discipline a manufacturer, without disciplining OURSELVES. .What hurts i him hurts us!

Where Do You Belong? We unconsciously get to thinking of the manufacturer as a "class" a group of men set apart from ourselves when they aren't at all. They're one of us and we're one of them. Any time you want to know where YOU belong just stop and figure out where you get the money you live on. If it comes from a manufacturer you are a manufacturer, just as much as if your name was up above the big front office door.

He. like you, buys the necessities and comforts of rife from a retailer who buys from a Jobber who buys from a manufacturer ALL, or WHOM muat buy from the Public (you) the time, skill, knowledge, materials etc. that the Public has to SELL. When YOU buy, ALL. buy rhen YOU stop. ALL stop!

It Reaches You When the retailer's business is slack, the jobber's business MUST be slack for the retailer quits buying from him, When the jobber's business is slack, the manufacturer's business is slack because the jobber has quit buying from him. And, when the business of the manufacturer and jobber and retailer is slack YOUR BUSINESS is SLACK, too for these men have been compelled, by your action, to quit buying from you. The Answer Is "No!" Figure for yourself where YOUR money comes from! Do you want business in THAT line to be slack? Of course NOT! Are the prices you are getting for YOUR time, skill, experience or materials, TOO HIGH? Your answer is: "NO!" Stop, Think Then Act Just remember, then, that the money that comes into your pocketbook is PART of the "high prices" we wanted to BRING DOWN. Let's be careful not to bring them TOO FAR down! And we can do this by accepting present prices as fairer and reasonable and buying NOW the things wo need and want.
