Ntlonl Crop Improvement Service CASH grain Is the technical terra for Immediate delivery. In England It is called spot grain, which means that the grain Is on hnnd. Chicago Is the greatest commission groin market in the world and handles approximately 400,000,000 bushels of actual gruln every year. Along one side of the immense trading hall are placed rows of marble-top tables each one of which Is the daily office of one or more commission firms. No other commodity is handled In such Immense quantities with so little friction and on such a fma!l margin. The commission man charges for his services on corn one per cent of the selling price. After the grain is Inspected, the samples are brought on tho board of trade before the session, in raPef sacks, duly marked with the grade
and to whom the lot Is consigned. Just os soon as the samples are handed to him, the dealer, according to his Judgment, verifies the grade. If he thinks !t will stand for a better grade, he demands It In the Interest of his customer, which Is generally a country elevator either owned privately or by the farmers, as n large number of them are now. It is his business to sell the grain nt the very best price possible. The buyers from the Industrials, the mills, the shippers, etc., oswarm around the tables looking for barpains. The commission man stands between the country shipper and the buyer, and according to his success In getting the highest market price for the grain which he offers, depends his success In business. He must make money for hla client in the country or the client will look up some other commission man.

The thing which saddens all of us Is the religious waif, the child who eets no religions sympathy in .the home; the child whose j.arent3 are religiously Irresponsible. The time lias arrived when parents have realize, 1 the full measure of their duty. No country in the world can point with so much pride as 0'ir own to the manner and degree to which we provide our children. They are the best born. They are the best matured physically. Th'-y are the be.t cared for from every material point of view. Our public fcho-d system makes the boa:'t that these boys and girls of ours are the best
