rSPlClAL TO THE TIMES 1 WHITING. InJ.. Feb. 10. Word h come from tlia camp of the T3-g Five squad that Ilaxry Frlehllng- and Bernle L'gan have been added to the team. As FrleMinff la at present in New York City It is evident that the Owls' opponents for Saturday nljht are leaving no effqrt unspared to n-tn this crucial fcame. The addition of these two men 10 the squad vrWl give Manager Finn of the Chicaro quintet a total of ten ycasoned players all of th elongated type. Against this array of baske: talent the Owle will send a equad of nine men equally as tall, fully as skillfull and elusive, but young-er and more able to atand the hardship of the full route. From familiarity with the tactics t the Chicago five in seasons gone by It !s evident Bill Finn and Coach Pressler will endeavor to wear the local team out" In the first half and then substitute their scoring units in the endeavor tsmother the oil city team. The Community House haa been the v.'ene of many crucial ring caging battles, but it is doubtful if there was ever one staged there that could equal this one in importance, skill' and rivalry. Both of the quintets have been in the game so many years that there is not a trick or set oi signals known to the critics that has not been tried. In fact, each of the teams has Invented many a new maneuver and if headwork counts for anything in winning a basketball game this contest shouli furnish the spectators with the very extreme phase of the sport. Earl TTatson n-lll start the game at right forward for Whiting. Karl Is the smallest man In stature on the squad but the biggest scoring un't ever on any Owl's Club bssket machine. In fact, he Is without doubt the most accurate long and short rango shot on the court todsy. His steady improvement this season has been watched with deilght by locsl fans Against him will be pitted "Moose' Cochrane and Harry Friehlinar. Totter and Eckman will work at le.:t forward for the home team. Both are sterling basket cagers. Their versatility this season is the wonder of the j IocaI fans. They display ability t" ' cnop the leather In whenever it rolls i loose and to pas and dodge correctly.
1'addy Driseoll. Weiss and Egan will oppose them on the Chicago quintet. Mastney, the Owls' tall and elusive 1 (Tense man, will perform at the pivot position. He displays ability to shoot 111 and out of the opponent's defense at will and in previous games this season in which Feen?y happened to oppose him has always won the Jump. Stock, Knowles and Bartruska, the '"cal left ffuanls will furnish opposition for Marquardt and Grlesei. They ure one of the potent factors this sea."n In holding visiting clubs to a close r-'lcJ score. Knowles is the latest recruit to the Iva. He played the first T art of this season with the Chicago boosters and for teasons past has play-t-J sensational Dall for the Illinois AthIvtic Ciub. Taul Watson and Jack Traviscek. hitlngr right guards, will stop John yon and Elliott of the visiting team from registering field goals. Few forv ards have ever eluded these elongatcl floor guards. Their activities on the MTense have made accurate basket ajflng by the visiting squads impossible. These is seldom an opportunity to itness such a brilliaijt game of ha.1 c-tba.ll as will be shown on the loc-ii curt next Saturday night. Both teams nre convposed -f the finest players that the sport has developed. They rpprcH'"' the very uppermost limits of baskteer!ng art. Tickets will be on sale at I'.ittcr'a until 8:00 p. in. Saturday evening.

CHICAGO
WILL TRY TO REPEAT DOSE Haminoiid Five Will Be Stronger in its Return Match, However BT TRVIN'O CIIATKEN. The Hammond high school basketball live whose entry for state honors this year is being watched closely by all concerned will face another test tomorrow evening at the Irving school gymnasium when Coach Lawrence or Ea-st Chicago will bring his quintet here for a game which promises to be the best o the season. With slightly warmer weather promised Hammond basketball fan. will turn out enmasse. Students from both schools will be on the Job with thalr yell leaders and the Irving gym will oe packed long before
the contest gets going. From the general looks of things the East Chicago five will be somewhat outweighed and out experienced, if Buch a word might aptly be used in connection with such players as Donald Shelton. Robert Cadwallder. Andy Evans and George Housley. Staid high school veterans in Hammond are knowingly wig-wagging their heads, all because the old town for the first time In many moons will be considered a runner-up for the highly feted Indiana title. Friday's combat will be the second between the two scfiools this season, the Twin City Ave gave Hammond an
awful drubbing in an earlier game and the result rf this coming struggle tomorrow will be watched with interest by other coaches throughout the county. Inasmuch as the Hammond team Is scheduled to meet the (Gary) Froebel quintet In this elty a week from Saturday. The consensus m tomorrow's game indicates that the local fire is slightly favored to win over the East Chicago team, but all who favor Hammond maintain that the visitor will battle to a close score. Both fives have had plenty f opposition in games played to date, so Friday's game will prbve as to which team will make a. clear showing in the coming tournament at Gary. The high school's second team which has been going up and down all season will open the evening's entertainment against the flashy Pirate five, the
I early contest being scheduled tfor 7:30
while the bis game will start at 8:15 harp. Coach Hess is still dickering for a game to be played this Saturday and as the contest must be played out of town the scheduling of the single game does not look very promising.

I by Ted (Kid) Iew1a In his Wut with
Jack Britton Monday Mght. nae ioj furnished a problem for the New Torn boxing commission. The legality of the use of s mouthpiece under the rules which govern boxing in this slste is a question the commission will decide and a decision may be handed down tomorrow. Jack Britton. who will be ssked to explain his action In hitting one' e: Lewis seconds by the commissioners
! claims Lewis, violsted the rules. 1 -The referee erred in letting Lw!.
wear a rubber thock absorber," said Britton today. "It took up the shock of my punches end according to the rules It Is literal. The mles read that a boxer shall w?ar nothing above the belt but regulation gloves, which shall be put on in the ring. "I'm sorry that I lost my head and hit one of Lewis' seconds, but he was ragging me and I was indignant over Ted's action In trying to put one across by springing a mouthpiece on me. Maybe you noticed that I elevated my sights after I discovered it. That was one reason why I kept my left hand against Ted's nose so much." If confidence Is a virtue In a flghte' the welterweight champion is full of it. And If his -rtamlna and craftiness hold out as long as his confidenco promises to;be wlM be the boss of h' division for a long time to come. Here's what he says of Lewis: "Ted has only one style of fighting That is why I can give h'ni a beating whenever I am in shape as I was Monday night. I can change my style and this is what fools Ted. He doesn t knew what to expect. "Lewis is a good fighter. Don't make any mlutako about that. There isn't a man in the game who can lick a sucker betle-r than Ted can. Luckily for me I don't happen to be a sucker as a boxer.'

Morrie Johnson to Bring Following to Whiting BT JIMM1E RAT. WHITING. Ind., Feb. 10. The American Legion Post of Roseland Is coming to Whiting en masse to see the r star athlete, Morrie Johnson, fighl Jimmy Brady of Michigan. To hear these fans talk about this Johnson boy. one would think that he was enother Benny Ieonard. or at least a Battling Nelson. Like Battling Nelson he is a fighting Swede an dls known for his vtclousness. We don't mean that he Is a wild man ot anything of the kind, but he goes into a fight to mean business, and he does it. His past performances have shown that he can disptach his opponents if it Is necessary to do so. His manager has a series of battles planned for him rnd if he makes good all the way. he will be fighting topnotchers in a very short order. In picking Jimmy Brady for an opponent he has picked a fighter of considerable ability. Jimmy l.afl considerable ability and hi sfoot work Is said to bo splendid. He is a tall fellow and can hit hard with either hand. In a recent fight he shows his ability to gn at a fast pace for ten rounds and hi. opponent was one with a record as a knockout fighter. Jack Lindgren. another fighting Swede, and the pride of the. Standard Athletic Club, will have another opportunity to show his wares to local followers when he wades into Johnny Ruddy. Llndgren has been training steadily since his last encounter and expects to maintain his clear record. The Whiting I'ost American Legion expects te clear enough on this show to take care of Its Washington's birthday program.
