COPS CATCH MURDERER IN DRAGNET

Aftr 24 hours of constant work, Oricrrs Zar'.to-ich and Jenusanskl, ivorkinR under tlie orJers of Scrt;ca.nt Makar of. th- Indiana Ilarb.r Ktatit.n. this morning- nuxle one of the quickest robbery cleanup ricuntiil in the history of the Kist Chicago polio department when they recovered over Sl.ooo worth of goodo. making four arrrsis, all of whrnn have confepsfrf. besides capturing- one of the men wanted fr murd-?r at Toledo, O. On Thursday evening- the store of 11. Mataxar of Bitch avenue, Indiana Harbor, ws enttreu throush a side window and -oods valued at Jl.'." .stolen. A"it :iin on hour from the time the case was report to the poll, e, the authorities ha 1 set out a dragnet for the culprits, which netted lUm over 60 men. Including negroes and Mexicans. Durinar the wee hours of Friday morning anj continuing: through the entire day. no stone was left unturned by the police In their attempt to catch the bandits. DI.OOII STAIN OKl'KIl CI.1'1. "When the thlivcs entered the Matascar store they broke one of the windows in the ski? of the building, which resulted in two of the men cutting their hands. The blood stains were traced from tho scene of the robbery by Makar. Zankovich and Jenusanskl to a house arniut a square away, but when tfce police arrived, no slsn of the bandits or the goods could be found. The police th?n turned their attention to the Mexicans jrathered in on tne raid and after a strong- grilling by Sergeant Makar, admitted taking part in the robbery. A short time after the police hal secured the confession from tW f,,ur Mexicans, Officers Zankovich and Jr nusansk 1 went to a house at 3422 Hl.i.-h avenue and there In a wood shed covered with old raps and paper, found the stolen poods. ADMITS IlKIXfi MniDlinEIl. The four Mexlcens. Antonio Delion. of 4027 Deodar slieet. Andrew Itome'ro. Pennsylvania avenue; Francis Gonzales, no home, and Peter Costello, rooming- at the Inland Hotel. have been in the clutches of the law before, two of the men hav'ng served time at Joliet. One o.f the most Important arrests Is that of Afdrew Uomelro, who is wanted by the Tvledo. O.. authorities for the murder of Juan Vanegaa in that city last summer. When confronted by Sergeant Makar at first denied of having ever murdered any person, but after a xtrnns cross examination, finally broke down and confess--! that he had killed Vanegas in a hotel in Toledo. durln a. drunken frenzy. Ttomeiro In his statement to the police, stated that he had rented a room in a hotel and by chance was given a room next to that occupied by Vanegas. Komeirc stated that Vaneirn came to his room and requested a drink of whiskey, but upon being informed by Komeiro that he had no liquor, became very abuslv and is further alleged to have drawn a razor, whereupon Romclro fired two shots at Vnnegas. from a .43 caliber revolver, cnus'ng death almost Instantly. After the ahootlng Romeiro coolly walked out of the hotel anc went to the I'nton Station at Toledo, where he boarded a. train for Indiana Harbor. This Is the second murder suspect picked up by thu Iiarbor police in the past week and Is Just an example of the erood work being- done by that end of the Twin City'sSTOItE OWNEri rUAISKS roi.tcE. "It is one of the quickest pieces of police work I have seen for sometime," stated Mr. Matasar, "and the police department is subtly deserving ol much praise. The cleverness with which the officers worked were a big surprise to me as I have always had a ("liYerent opinion of the police department, from the time I reported the robber- the officers have been on the J.1 and I certainly wish to congratulate them,"
