A.VO IIK PIT IT OVER
Steve Irk!ns had a bright Idea. He "would borrow Percy Jon.s' wlfp. The Inspiration back of this happy thought was caused bv the fact that In order
for Steve to acquire his Inheritance he had to be either 44 or married and Steve was neither. 80 the plot was hatched and Winnie Jones Introduced to Steve's Aunt Sarah, the guardian of the family treasury, as Mr?. Stephen Perkins. So far, so good. In fact. It was Immense but Aunt Sarah took a great liking to Winnie, and draggred her and her "hubby" ofT to a little cottage In the country. Of course Persy Jones had to trail alonfr; ho wasn't going to let his new .bride out of hla tight If he knew It. Then, to make matters even more Interesting:, at develops tfhat living right next door was 'Major Whitman and his daughter. Ruth, the latter being the young: lady that Steve was violently in love with. The above Is a faint Idea of Owen Moore's latest Se'.znick Picture. "The Chicken In the Case," which will be shown at the Columbia and American the-aterj today and It Is claimed that this famous comedian was never funnier than in the role of Steve Perkins. Victor Heerrain .both wrote and directed the picture, and it Is said to be even funnier than his last production, "The Poor Simp," which was the season's comedy hit. Teddy Sampson, Katherlne Perry, Vivian Ogden and Kd;ar Nelson have the supporting role.

BVRCLAR SLIPS AWAV To wake up and find a burglar In your room and then have him slip through your fingers, as you call for li el p, was the experience last evening of Ike Hekoff of 3315 Watllng street, Indiana Harbor. Somewhere between the hours of midnight and this morning a negro prowler entered through one of the windows at the Hekoff home, and after securing about $6 in cash, several razors, clothes and a few other articles attempted to leave the building In the eame manner as he entered. His noise awtokle HekoffJ, who sprang (at the negro, graDblng him by the coat aa the thief leaped out the window. Believing that he had the burglar, Hekoff cried for help, but when aslstance arrived, found that he was merely holding part of a coat instead cf holding a prisoner.
Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Sarlc and llr. and Mrs. Henry Lrandefield attended the auto ehow In Chicago last evening.

BRITISH FEEL OPTIMISTIC LONDON, Feb. 3. There Is an optimistic feeling In British official circles that a patlsfactory solution will be reached on the Indemnity question despite the fury of resentment aroused In lt rmany over the amount Imposed by the allies, said the diplomatic correspondent of the Dally Telegraph today. "The pronouncement of Hr. Simons, the German foreign minister, that the sum of indemnity fixed by the allies was unsatisfactory, was discounted in advance In official circles." declared
the correspondent. He continued: "It Is understood that no German counter proposals will be considered unless they are clearly relevant to the allies' demands for 221. 000. 000,000 gold marks and an ad valorem tax on German exports; these demand); mtist form the basis of all future discusDions with Germany."
