Why not take a vacation tomorrow from he home meal and bring the family

I here i ou 11 enjoy our delicious food.

'sAmericanism is ' not a matter of birthplace, of ancestry, or of creed, but it is a matter of the spirit that is in a man's soul." Thus said the greatest American of his time, Theodore Roosevelt. Industrial restriction is unnecessary, un-American, born of narrow, selfish motives, attended with dire evils and impractical in modern retail merchandising. J We are in business to sell the merchandise and good service to the peoples of every nationality, creed and organization in the Calumet Region. We have in our employ salespeople who are descendents of every nationality employes that are loyal, that have ambition, that have initiative, and the character to siand firm in their rights under the constitution as Americans. J We realize that in a large measure the success of "our business" depends upon the efficiency of our selling force, and that a low-priced, incompetent sales clerk is the most expensive investment , we could make to give store service. In order to get and retain the right kind of help we must offer attractive compensation, hours and working conditions. Cjj The wages of all store help are higher today than ever before in the history of retail merchandising, even when diminished purchasing power of the dollars js taken into consideration. J Today the highest grade of salesmanship is being attracted to store employment, thereby giving the stores the opportunity of developing a highly efficient selling force.

This store, however, has no intention of cutting down salaries of its faithful employes. We take pride in our present working force, and believe that efficient service deserves liberal compensation, hours and working conditions. The closing down of many auto manufacturers, and some of the factories' to part time, owing to temporary industrial disturbances, has made the supply of store help more plentiful than a few months ago. But high class, thoroughly competent sales clerks are still scarce, and that is the only kind we are willing to employ. fl The prices on all our merchandise will continue to be as low or lower than those of any store anywhere ; however, we shall not make our price reductions at the expense of our workers. We prefer to make our retrenchments in other directions. The building of a great store or a great business requires scientific management exerted to the highest degree the elimination of waste the conservation of all forces that make for correct retail distribution. C True of all retailing in the abstract, it must be vitally true of THIS BIG STORE. It is then this big store which has been building and growing more than thirty years, that place in black and white this printed greeting to friends seen and unseen, and to friends known and unknown, ani bid them welcome to the OPEN DOOR OF THE OPEN STORE.
