Mis registered progeny is 213 purebred bulls and heifers, and probably there were many more that were not recorded In the early days when purebreds brought little rore than beef prices. "Idolmere,'' which was champion in 1019, was one of his grandsons; U. of C. Jock, third champion steer at the 1919 Internationa!, rmd
many prize winners at all the great shows. Liis sons head leading herds In both Canada and the United States and his grandsons have gone to South America. When Otto Battles bought his first purebred Aberdeen Angu3 be was a poop farmer whose local elevator would not sell him feed. Those were the days when a farmer who spent over fifty dollars for an animal with a pedigree was looked tipon as being not quite bright. Now. the Battles herd Is one of the most famous In th world. The purebred sire put this farmer ever the grade, made him famous, and even in these days of large fortrjnes he is comfortably fixed.

?Ir. and Mrs. Pierre Taul Auther and their baby. Xo matter "what the Chicago authorities decide to do or whether reconciliations are effected between Pierre Paul Auther, the love bandit, end his wife and that of his "souimate," Mrs. Phillip M. Franzen. and her wrorip-ed husband, the state of Wisconsin will demand that the alleged Spanish grandee be brought to trial at Madison, Wis., on a charre or larceny. This was announced recently by Chief of Police Thomas Shaughressy of Madison. The larceny charge was made against Auther by -Tar-zen who asserted that the former had taken $110 at the point of a tevoiver at the time he forced Franzen to sign away hi rights to Mrs. Franzen ar.d the two eloped. Auther posed as a "Spanish grandee."Fol'owir.g ths return of the lovers to Chicago, Franzen and Mrs. Auther derided to forgive their wayward spouses and reconciliations were effected, even the wives shaking hands and agreeing to let bygones be bvgones. Franzen hastened to notify the Wisconsin authorities that te viehed to withdraw the warrent he had sworn out for Auther.
