lor;' changes in the truancy laws; a bill giving the state, superintendent power to call into conforenca not more than four times a year all county superintendents and compelling their attendance; changes in the law relating to children In Industry; bill providing that all teachers must be American cltisens. as well as other Americanization bills which would require oaths of allegiance to the American gc rnment of all school officials and employes, ard numerous other important measures. One of the most Important educational mearurea to he inIroduoed is one asking for a seven cent tax levy for the state' educational needs. It is enpected this demand will be cut oat on recommendation of the state board of tax commissioners. The state department of conservation also will go before the legiwlators with a request for additional appropriations and for laws which would extend their operations to a greater usefulness for the utate: One of the departments most Important measures Is a request for the creation of a division of engineering of the department of conservation. This would be fperated in conjunction with Purdue university in the same manner In which the department of geology 19 operated now. The state engineers would be In charge of the topographical survey of the state, which Is being suggested now. and would also advise the department aa regards dralnaaso matters, which ara affecting vitally the water supply of the atate at the present time. It 1s expected that the usual nnmtK-r Of freak bills will be presented at this session. These btllK, however, according to present Indications, will not get far. owing to the need of tangible legislation, which i. vital to the welfare of the state. fme of the bills, which ts scheduled to die an arly death is that which would give trustees of the state their Jobs for life.
