In the abstract of title appeared a number of Indian owners of the land. The names of the ivivis were different from the husbands. Tins is a common occurrence among the Indians, but the law deals in specific things. A suit had to be brought to show that Me-qua-wos wrs the wife of Pas-cow-we, Mis-coh-nom-J.h, the wife of Tesj Gose, and Man-t an-srose. the wife of Pcskah. ail of whom were heirs of Gesis Chamdami, a noted chief of the Pottawatomie Indians. The headquarters of the Pottawatomie was nt liaileytow n. in the sand dunes of Porter county.
