TWO MERRY PARTIES AT EAST CHICAGO Clayton Mark Host at One Party; Col. Riley Remembers Orphans

Of the many Christmas events In the city of East Chicago today two of the fc-avst parties were those at the Mark subdivision community hall, attended

by 4(K) children and many of their parents, and the one at Carmelite orphanage, wrier nearly 100 little tots ar j the sisters caring- for them were the guests. The host at Mark subdivision &rty which Is an annual affair, was Clayton Mark, of Chicago, chairman of the Steel and Tube Co. of America. All of the little (tuesta are children of tlve employes of Mark plant, S'ecl and Tube C. of America. Col. Walter J. Riley, the East Chicago banker, was host at the orphanage jarty. Appropriate programs, in which local ff,nt and professional entertainers took part, were rendered at both places this afternoon, and the little ones howl

ed with delight when the actcrs appeared in Christmas roles. Kaih place was decorated, hed Its illuminated Christmas tree and Santa Claus found time to- appear at toth parties. The steel magnate and the banker had arranged with Santa Claus headquarters fo that the little guests at each party received a rresent, ai.d & basket that included nuts, candy and fruit. At the Mark, community hall party, Theodore Helm, who acted as master of ceremonies, introduced Santa Claus to the audience.

After numerous exchanges of cablegnuns covering a long period. word lias been received by William Huber, employment manager of the General American Tank Corporation, of the arrival of his son. Gilbert J. Huber. and his Brazilian bride, Mrs. Joyce Huber, formerly Miss Joyce Keyes-Cochman. of Braxil. South America, who will arrive In Chicago this afternoon. Mr. Gilbert, who is the r.razilian representative of the Johns-Manville Co., the world's largest asbestos manufacturers, has been in South America for about two years, and made the acquaintance of his wife, shortly after taking up his position in Brazil. His bride, who comes from a very prominent family, while not able to Fpeak English is a very fluent speaker of the Spanish. Portuguese, French and several other foreign tongues.

Mr. Huber is a former lieutenant in j the aviation corps and during the world

war made a wonderful record. According to word received by the father, Mr. Huber has anr.oujjuod that he will give & supper at the Cottage Inn on the night of the r&th of IVcember, to all of bis chums and acquaintances.

FISHES VALUABLE LOOT FROM RIVER NASHVILLE. Tern., Dec 14 Luther Ellis, a farmer near Ashland City, fished out of the Cumberland river a sack containing stock certificates, insurance policies and other valuable papers, stolen by robbers from the vault of the First National bank of Smyrna. Tenn., on the night of Dec. 13. The papers were turned over to Chief of Police Barthell here, who last n glit delivered them to W. V. Smith, president of the bank. Mr. Snith s.gned a receipt for $50,000 in taking trem from Chief Barthell. Ellis discovered the sack of valuables while he was rowing across the river in a skirt.
