The Oreat Lakes String Quartet has earned a eplendid name for itself because of its achievements in chamber music. Chamber music, originally written for the fen- and until recent year occupying a supposedly Inaccessible niche in musical appreciation. Is now becominc one of the essential features on programs outlined by all progressive musii-al communities. Following the appearance of the quartet at the Dlackstone theater in Chicago recently, newspaper critics were lavish in their praise of the work or th5 artists. One of them said: "The exceptional quality of their playing i beautiful, being uncommonly gjfl and pure, jet not lacking in power, Sncisiveness and brilliancy when those are desirable. The average tonal quality is, however, exceptionally ingratiiiting'and in itself makes listening a pleasure." The appearance of the quartet in Hammond will be Ihe first of a series of lyceum numbers fostered by the Country club. Advance ticket sale has been gratifying, the majority of the sales being for the entire season which arries with it a aubstantial reduction in price.
