President-Elect Has Not Done All His Christmas Selecting in the Matter of Cabinet Jobs. -- STAFF CO-RESPONDENT !. N SERVICE BT JACK liOYLE r MARION'. O, Dec. 22. Presidentelect Harding has don most of hts Christmas shopping but he lias a collection of gifts on his dc.k for whom 3e his not yet selected recipients. 'Among these, are ton nice new cabinet yert-folioa. It Is exceedingly doubtful, however, if he makes hts decisions in time to slip a cabinet position into any of tho many gaping Christmas stocklegs hung up in expectation. The pressure of recommendation and liject ion for and against candidates is growing stronger each day, although Senator MUes Poindcxter is the first of tho Harding visitors openly to announce that he came specifically -" iiiake recommendations about a cabiBet post. Strength was added t. Foindexter's Ja for Joseph Dixon, of Montana, as jecretary of the interior, by the fact that Dixon is thoroughly familiar with reclamation work in the west, to which. the n'-w administration Is pledged, lie alfo is counted amon he regressive wing of tho republican tarty, recognition for -which is dostred. But Senator Fall, it is known, wishes to become secretary of state and it t said has not yet been definitely elimIcated for consideration for that pos?. There seems to be a concesus ot pinion that Harry M. Dougherty wilt He named as attorney-genera!; that "Will Hays will take on the task of reorganizing the postofflee department and that Henry Wallace will be(om secretary of agriculture. Much discussion has arisen over the possibility of including Senator Weeks, of Mass., In the cabinet. One objection outlined here seems to be that the determination to hare Vice President Coolidge sit as a cabinet officer without portfolio would frive Massachusetts adequate representation. AVeeks has been mentioned for both treasury, war and navy. Senator Xew, of Indiana, it is known e" tha best authority, is disinclined to forsake the senate for f cabinet, bu. should he do so. the department ov war Js t!ie only one he would consider. Repv. Kahn, of California, is being Tgfd for that post, and may. it Is aid. would approve the appointment of Senator Chamberlain, of Oregon, who failed for re-election. The candidates for the post of secretary of labor are not particularly numerous. Herbert Hoover is being advocated by those who know his close
relations with both employers and employes. John L. "Lewis, president of the United Mine Workers, is regarded as a possibility, as i Repv. Nolan, of California, who holds a union card and ha sponsored much progressive labor legislation. There was heavy selling of Texa Pacific Coal and Oil, which broke 2 Ji
