r. Capt. John Willars. Capt. John Willars, arrested reently on the charge of being a deserter from the U. S. army, is said to have told officials of a plan hatched during the war whereby German cadets were to come to the U. S. and enlist in the U. S. army. Willars denies the deserter charge.

HOBART

The new flre engine, which the town of Hobart has purchased, arrived here Thursday and yesterday afternoon the machine was demonstrated. The Gary fire chief was here to witness tbdemonstration. The -car has the La Frano motor equipment, which is considered the best in the country. Mr. and Mrs. George Santer vlaltea friends and relatives at East Chicago 1 esterday. Mr. Alfred Ingrant of St. Louis stopped here over Sunday while on hi way to his home In Boston. Mass.
