VOICE OP THE PEOPLE
A CHRISTMAS APPEAL Dear iFriends: While we remember the distinctive tueiaaje of Christmas: "Peace on earth good will towards men," may we with many uieful gifts, remember the sick nd afflicted heroes In Chicago hospitals, many homeless and friendless, ufferlngr mentally and physically, from Infirmities and mental pictures of liendish horrors, which never can be erased from their minds, their very hearts have been torn assunder by the most cruel and bloodiest battles the world has ever known. Eager as we were to gain freedom by th? sacrifice of our dear hoys, may we kindly reir.emher those most needy, who have helped to win the war. May the sarat pirtt prevail and rest upon these maimed heroes while in direct need, as it did at the beginning of the world' most terrible conflict. Our boys have Teen the sole Instrument for our coun;trys xeace. Those remaining vave defied death. "What for? Many without arm or ley. sleht or hearing to live a life of misery and privations beyond Imagination, where It was once a etrug-gle for victory with our boys it's r.ow a struggle far existence and peace cf mind. royalty to country is loyalty to our sailors and soldiers, whom the Lord has given unto our care. How are va receiving them? Should humanity pay greater tribute to the dea.J than to the living? It's easy to die. those remaining have faced something worse than death, thousands torn from lived one ! extreme youth, to Indulge In e!n with associations of the lowest depth of humanity. Tou or I could not pass through Are without being erorched. With a living remembrance of our fallen heroes, may we be urged to scatter the laurels among the living, where thousands of clean and upright men are awaiting our action, men who would be honest and sincere, if only for our helping hand. Many there are meeting with oposltlon, here ana there also find It necessary to discard the uniform that they may demand the respect of some people. These class of men should not pay the penalty of the degraded ones who defied their God. served satan and abuse of privileges of country's service. I voice th sentiments of thousands of mothers, when I say I honor the American uniform as well as the one who wore it. it shall always have a cherished place In my heart and horae. for It conquored the demon of war. May all prejudice be removed and Justice prevail. It Is not how much we do, but the little we do. that means much, which cheer a despondent soldier or eellor. Sincerely JLRS. O. C.
