city now boiouo'ing tu the Bolshevika. Alter taking aboard twenty-ilva women and children we returned to Constantinople aud tuck thciu to tha Island of ProtL We had plenty of liberty and remember dear folks this country la not ury by a long shot. This city Is a historical tpot and wa will not go Into details. We were paid in Turkish, gold and have it exchanged for Queer looking paper money called piastres. A gold pound is worth $4.40 lu our money. After clearing the Dardeueils we headed eouuhweat tnxough the eastern Mediterranean, Forty-eight hours later we arrived at Jaffa Syria, The crew was given, leaver to go to Jerusalem and Bethlehem, here we have it on most of our Forefathers. We saw nearly ail of the Bibical places and spots. After going to Alexandria, Egypt and seeing the pryamids, sphinx aud Sahara Lesert. we went to Beirut. Smyrna and then to Athena to see the AcropUsand Temple of Thesus, then returned to Constantinople, our base. ."ext it came our turn &a etation ship at Constanza, lioumanla. We had another leave here to Bucharest a, the capitol of said country. This Is a trip that the crew will never forget, for it is well known as the second Paris of the world. After a snappy trip to Varna, Bulgaria, we put back to Constantinople. Then the next trip is the most exciting one we have had. We were on our way to the Sea of Azof, while going through the Strait of Kirch we were fired on by the Bol(sheviks. Several missies hit within two hundred yards of the ship before Bennikena forces ion the other side started firing at them. We were under nu orders to fire at them so the only thing for us to -do was to get out of range, which we did and lost no time about it. Our first atop on this trip was Sevastopol. Russia, There we only got 165,000 Kouples for a gold pound. Before the war a Rpuple was only worth 52 cents. We are now at Batoum, Kussla. Upon our arrival at Constantinople we will transfer twenty-two men to be sent home and discharged. According to rumors our next trip will be to the Adriatics for a months target practice, spd run. We have been to twelve countries and twentyfive ports. Who eaid that we have not been on the move? Yours, A. S. COSKET, 17. S. S. Smith-Thompson, Care P. M. J. T. 1 - j- . -i j
