BAIiDWIN TELLS OF WELFARE WORK (Continued from Tage One) fare." Dr. Baldwin first commented tue way In which the women toolt 1 art in tho various activities of the convention. lie said that the greatest assets of our nation are our normal and superior childreo. our .gfeatest Labilities art our deformed, sickly children. This convention was the o.t time that he has spoken in lnu.ana. but he felt that Indiana had contributed much to Ion a in an educational way. He spoke in a most hearty way his ai pieclation of Mraf. Vayhinger, saying t.iat she Is one of Indiana's great women, "one of our nation's great woliiin." Science is both national and .Llernatlonal. Studies we are making ate as applicable in one place as anther. The child welfare station was founded because of great need. In 1917 state legislature of Iowa voted $13.00 a year for research work in this stat'on. The National W. C. T. C. cont. Touted $5,000 a year for five year.r.iaklng it as mucti one state's as anotner. States are planning various activities in connection with this stat'ori. Many children are brought to the station from all over Iowa. The motiitr is given help in every way and made more capable to rear her little charge. The station is first a restarch station, wonderful discoveries have been made in the feeding of bab:es and feeding the school child. A ery intensive study is being made on children from 5 to 7 years of age. A number of years will be required on this subject alone. In Iowa the number of children per mother is onehalf what it was 10 years ago. "Wc n.ust develop the smaller number more carefully, we must turn our attention t- the scientific study of how children grow. Various councils assist this station by helping to plan this study. 'There is an interest sweeping this

Mrs. Wright another representative to the world's convention in London. ?roke to the convention for few minutes. Resolution committee reported and resolutions were unanimously accepted by convention. MOSDAT MGHT. Meeting opened with Mrs. Vayhinger In chair. Mrs. Licklider led the convention In singing the song "Work For Knforcement" which was wrltton by Mtss Gordon, national president of the W. C. T. U. An organ number by Mrs. Haiel Houser was much enjoyed. Miss Anna vordon of Evanston, Illnational president and world's vice president of W. C. T. U., was introduced to the convention. She? was greeted with hearty applause and chatauqua salute. Miss Gordon has been part of her way round the world in her world tour In the interest of the V. C. T. U. Miss Gordon spoke of Mrs.Vay hiriger'3 aceptance of the national directorship of the department of Americanization. "Mother National feels herself fortunate In having Mrs. Vayhinger filling this position." she said. Miss Gordon and Miss Dean are trying to raise $1. 000.000 and 1.000,000 members by 1924 when the organization will celebrate its 50th birthday. Miss Gordon and Miss Dean have been commissioned by Vv. C. T. U. to make a survey of the countries of the world's W. C, T. V. It became their duty to make a survey of thirty countries. Miss Gordon gave a bit of the e arly history of the Pilgrims. "We sre row thinking of the Pilgrim fathers and must not forget tJe Pl'erim mothers. And we do honor the Pilgrim fathers," she said. Miss Gordon and Miss Dean first went to London to the big world's convention there. She spoke very beautifully of the Countess of Carlysle who was much Impressed by what the American women can do. She believes that Great Britain i3 nearer prohibition today than Is generally believed. The English people are seeing, upon investigation, thAt America is surpassing their own country in an economic way and it is the nature of England to noCJet America surpass in any way. People who know conditions there believe that it will be dry In ten years. Miss Gordon said the countries want to hear the story of other countries that have gone dry. At the world's convention every civilised country was represented. A big getting together after seven years' separation brought about by the world war. In England all white ribbon women pause for a moment at noon-time to ask God's blessing on the work. The three words Miss Gordon wished t" leave to the convention were these:
