LOSES AVTO TWICE Tor the second time In the past two wiseks Verne Rodpers of Zi2Z Michigan fvtnue. Indiana Harbor, has lost his r-oick automobile. On September S3 x.io car was stolen, but was found a Cay later by a couple of boys at the turner of 13Sth and Grapevine street. Last night the roachiua was stolen again.
WORKS DO A II D MEETING The East Chicago board of works yesterday spent most of the afternoon la a discussion of ways and means for pavement of 142nd street and Parrtsh avenue. The streets which are to be fiaved abut upon the park property and a1sv upon the property of the Indiana Harbor Homes corporation, and It was recessary to determine upon the valuation of that property before the Improvement could be undertaken. The Indiana Harbor Homes company, through Wa'.ter J. Riley agreed to a Valuation of $10,000 on their property and the city attorney was Instructed to pace an ordinance before the city council providing for the payment of the city's share of the expense of pove. went. X A committee of the Chamber of Commerce, appeared before th board with the re-quest that the Hammond, Whiting and East Chicago street car company be compelled to take care of the pavement between their tracks on Forsyth avenue. The board Instructed the Company to oil the macadam pavement.

"t- GETTIXG AFTER DELIXQVE.NTS Walter Harmon, city treasurer of East Chicago, has- launched his campaign to clean up more than $8,000 In !:inquent taxes which hars been run. tiir.g in some cases for five or six years. The delinquents number more than 2.PC0 residents of the city, making an average of about $4 that each one Is delinquent. In a number of cases of course the amount is much more than $4 and In other cases the delinquents owe only the $1 poll tax. The clean-up Is not being made, according to Mr. Harmon, with the Idea of cau5ing anyone any trouble, but merely to make everyone pay their j'j't share of the city expenses. Mahany, in charge of immigration and at present actinjj secretary of labor. Commissioner Wa.lis made a special trip to Washington to obtain relief for the congested conditions now prevailing at Ellis Island, New York. He says over 3,000 immigrants are waiting on ships and that there are not sufficient accommodations on the island.
