EW SHOOTIMi smrE Another East Chicago negro was sent to the hospital last night as the result of a shooting scrape of which Officer Ben Crawford wm an interested spectator and came near being one of the principal actors. Crawford was . traveling his beat along Alexander avenue last evening Trhen he heard swearing and arguments in the pool room at 5001 Alexander. He stepped inside to straighten things out and found Ben Patrick cursing Will T'emberton, another negro. rmbrton was apparently taking everything in without trying to answer. Crawford ordered Tatrick to keep .still and when the man became abusive toward him threatened to arrest him. At the threat of arrest a third negro by the name of John Smith stepped up and tried to persuade Patrick to keep quiet, but Patrick pushed him away and called him a vile name, fmith stepped back a step, whipped out a revolver and shot Patrick in the hip. Officer Crawford quickly placed Smith i nder arrest and called Dr. P. K. Martin, who sent Patrick to the Gary hospital. ,
