NATIONAL GUARD FOR LAKE COUNTY

A ew National Guarrt unit Is to t formed in either Gry, Hammond, Whiting or East Chicago in the near future according: to reliable information received by The Times yesterday. Major J. X. Uinrleby. of Gary and Crown Point, who organized and trained Gary's veil-known Company 1. which, fi'-iriny the war. saw ervic on the border a.nd was then ordered overseas, has twien detailed by the Adjutetit General to send him information relative to or-g-niginz a battalion of engineers in Lake county. The minimum muster roll of the new organitatton will be a company of some 50 men and will be ri'ked from the best ex-service men in the county, it is understood. A naw rate of py for men of the new National Ciuard units has been issued and when ex-service men becoma acquainted with this fact it is certain that Major V'mpluby will have llttl difficulty in eecuring the signature of all the recruits he desire.". Major Vmpleby has asked The Times to state iht be would li'to to hear from aJl the ex-service men in the county, that would be interested in the formation of a bataliion of Engineers as he wishes to send information i-i the n1Jutant generat as soon as pussible. Letters will reach htm at either 632 Broadway, Gary, Ind., or Crown Point.
