The Oary St. Hobart Traotlon Company petitioned for an g-cent city fara in Oary and a -cent city tare In Hobart and East Oary. and for authority t Increase to 17.60 the price of its sixty-ride mnthly commuter's book. The present city fare in Oary Is I cents, and in Hobart and Bast Oary t cents. Recently the commission authorised the Oary Street Railway Company to Increase its fares to 8 cents. The Oary sc Southern Traction Company, operating between Oary and Crown Potnt, petitioned for a 10-cent city fare tn Gary, and for other interurban fare Increases. Including an increase to $11. IS for its fifty-ride monthly commuter's book. The commission authorised the Northwestern Indiana Telephone Company to increase Its telephone rates at Valparaiso. Chesterton. Hobart, Kouts and Wheeler. The commission says in Its order that, although the telephone company has set up a depreciation account. It has been charging renews.1 Mid replacement costs to ltj regular operating account, thus making a double operating charge on such Items, The commission observes that the telephone company's wage schedule is unusually high, because the company Is obliged to compete with the high wage schednle In the Calumet region.
