I:i the past the safety board has had trouble in getting good men for the police department because of the small wages which have been paid. As a rt s-ilt the department haj been wirkshort of" the required numbe" of men and has been unable to cope with the situation Since the increases of falary which have been granted to the I -slice officers, it is expected that good men can be obtained and an effort will be made to add ten or twenty men to the force within the next few days, in order to secure the men the safety b ard is advertising in the classified columns of the Times, specifying the r-.-quire-ments. In order to get a Job on the departr,,' r.t the men will have to o between 21 and 45 years of age. at least 5 feet S inches in their stocking feet. not less than 165 pounds, of sound health and unquestioned courage. They must also be able to read and write -English.

Mr. rearl Dunck Tobin who rormerly lived in the Atlas Apartments and taking up her residence with her mother, Mrs. Chester Johnston In Hickory st.( Hammond, whin Mr. Tbin departed to take a position at Flint. Mich., left yesterday with nor small son and accompanied by her mother and sister !ftss Olive Mae Dunck who, after a time, visiting at Flint, will bo Joined by Mr. Johnston from here and go on to Canada to visit relatives and friends. cago and she and the babe are doing very nicely. Members of the East Chicago K . O. T. M., No. 44, entertained many state officers and guests at their regular meeting held In the Odd Feliow's hall
with a good attendance on the part of local members. An entertalnins feature was a solo rendered by the record-keeper, Martin Hanskl, and talk were delivered by the. visit ng offxers.' Cards were indulged in as a pasiime' prior to the departure of the guestsl to their various homes.

Heretofore they have met on Friday afternoons but the announcement or last evening shows that Wednesday evenings, the first and third of the month, seems more preferable to many. The Woman's Guild of the Good Shepherd church are resuming their get-together meetings for the fall and winter and list one for this week at the homo of Mrs. J. J. Block, 42i Forsythe ave., for Friday afternoon. All members are urged to be present. The 1907 Club is enojylng a session of cards today with Mrs. W. J. Jenkins in North Magoun ave. Dr. J. L'rkov is arriving back from Rochester. Minn., where he has been taking several months course in special surgery. He will resume his practlme the early part of next week.
