S "As Marion county goes so goes the state'' This was th slogan announced to democratic precinct committeemen by Thomas Taggart, deraocrs-tic nominee for United States senator, at a. meeting In Indianapolis a few days after The primary in May. If Mr. Taggart vu right in preoption about Marion county then it is certain that the republicans wilt mako a clean sweep of the slate. acording to political observers who rav made a close analysis of the registration strength of the two parties in Marlon county. Th registration last Saturday revealed that the Marion county democrats are almost wholly without a militant organization. This is true, particularly in regard to the women. In every'ward in Indianapolis and in the townships that in past years cast substantial democratic majorities the registration was pitifully light. Not only dm the men exhibit a marked degree of apathy, but the women seem ed to be hostile to participation in politics. In some of the democratic precincts it was discovered that the women were turning out rather strong. At first it seemed strange in view of the attitude taken by most of tne women voters 1n a majority of the democratic precincts. Investigation disclosed that the woman l!st in these, precincts were swelled by active republican workers. Most of these women are listed in the poll bonks as republicans. Without exception the normal republican precincts had extremely heavy registration and the women turn ed out nearly as well as the men and in some cases the precinct records disclose that more women than men registered . In view of these disclosures. and the likelihood that the condition wiii not be substantially changed at the second registration period, it is being predicted that Marion county will gtve the entire republican ticket a majority of at least 30.000.
