"With this axle two different ratios f speed ara obtained, the drive being through one set of soars at a time. These sears are engaged or speeds changed by mentis of sliding clutches operated by a shifting: lever frum the driver's seat. 2 The presence of a sufficient quantity of oil or water on the exterior of a rrark plug-, so that It will make a connection between th. plus terminal and ths shoulder which screws into the cylinder, will cause a r'ug to misfire even though the points are clean. The oil or moisture together with dust and grime collects on the porcelain or mica insulation and if not cleaned occasionally will In time short circuit the rlug. 3 Attend to your tire valves and their cars occasionally. The cap should always be carried to cover the valve, not only to keep out dust and dirt but to maintain an air tight connection, preventing a tire from deflating should something go wrong with the valve ins.ide. This cap. if tightly fitted to the valve will hold more thajt the entire pressure of air within a tire, without a leak. 4 With the new forms of automobile insurance regarding theft an owner of a low or medium priced car is obliged to use eonie approved form of locking devise at all times, otherwise he is penalized. Approved locks are in various forms. There are steering wheel locks, either holding the wheel rigid or allowing it to turn without engaging with the steering gear, front -wheel lock and devices which do not allow the motor to start, but which are not wholly successful because the car under these conditions may be towed away. 5 The simplest form of gearing In a steering device for automobiles is a bevel or spur pinion gear at the steering post which engages with a spur or bevel sector or rack with at least twice the number of teeth of the former. By turning the steering wheel two or more complete revolutions, the front wheels may be brought from their furthest position at one side to that of the opposite side. This form of steering gear is used on many light and medium weight cars, and although not irreversible, It is easily operated. 6 A denred rim which causes any

MIEACLE MOTOR-GAS SOLVES GAS PROBLEM With the present cost of gasoline making ser!ous Inroads on the average motorist's pocketbook. the field for a good gasoline saver is almost unlimited, and motorists have been lookin? around to find some harmless chemi

Smith, located at 822 Caiumet avenue has solved the problem . Mr. Smith states that the chemical constitution of Miracle Mot.-r-Gai Is absolutely harmless and this assertion iy backed by the experiments of well-known chemists and auto experts. Care of Tire Valves. One part of an automobile tire which comes in for too little attention is the valve. The principal attention a motorlwt need give the valve is simply to see fiiat ail dust and dirt are excluded from its interior. There is a rather common belief that the valve cep is unessential. This

idea Is erroneous, far when a cap Is not used there is a utrong likelthorvi

that dirt will work into the valve and produce a leak. In addition, if the cap is screwed on well, a breakdown of the valve lnide need caue the driver no Inconvenience, as the cap will prevent the tire from deflating. Valve caps on fclcyciea, motorcycles, automobiles and trucks are all of one size, so if cap is lott, it may aaily be replaced. When removing the plunger fron the valve do not drop it Into the dirt, for dust may lodge oa the red rubber washer. If dirt has worked Its way Into the plunger. throw away the plunger and put in a new one. Sometimes there may he a leak around the baae of the valve stem. In that case the hexagonal nut should be tightened. This hexagonal nut should always e screwed down tight against the washer at the base, as

It cloties the hole in the rim. If this this makes a satisfactory seal around the opening through which the valve stem enter the - tube. The rim nut must always be screwed tight, so tha'm is not done, dirt will work in between the tire and tube and cause the tube to wear out. This advice Is given by the United States Tire company, .but as all the large tire companies use the same make of valve, the advice may be followed by practically all tire users.

HARD GOING. One of the American Red Cross transportation difficulties overcome in Montengro was crossing an unbtidgad mountain paas where the motor trucks had to b taken apart on one side, carried a-crosa by eight native porters, and assembled again on the other aide.
