INDIANA GETS BOOZE FROM MICHIGAN (Continued from rage one) Peru and Union City. K. komo Is ai other depot for booze and a large Quantity finds Its way to Richmond. Payton and Belief ontaine are activo liquor points . INDIANA GETS SHAKC Indiana gets a world of liquor that starts from Detroit and Is transported over various routes. There is a report here that Frederick VanXuys, of Indianapolis. United States attorney for the district of Indiana, has b--. n placed in possession by federal officers In Michigan of a vast amount of evidence against pub
lic officials in Indiana who are tainted with the liquor traffic. and that In about sixty days Ue will begin drawing the net about them. All of the liquor smuggled out of Windsor Is not distributed over the country. A lot of It remains here, many of the citizens getting their cellar supplies and the membership of the fashionable clubs getting heirs from the smugglers. Lesides the large quantities supplied "prominent citizens," the club members and some of the hotels, bootlegging Is a flourishing industry In this city. At street corners where people throng, bootleggers are found. They come acros the river on the ferryboats and in the crowds, passing with ease t .trough the meshes of the net the police and federal authorities hivo spread. The higher-ups seem to have a low alliance with the bootleggers. Abut the hotels, the railway stations, the small dealers in booze can be found The city police do not pay much atrtention to them unless asked to V so and there Is" not a sufficient number of prohibition agents to "cover" them. Certain taxlcab drivers are supply agents. The federal authorities have Information that a man living In Windsor, who works In a Detroit tactory brings two quart bottles across tho river each morning and
! peddles It by the drink to his fellow workmen. So far he has escaped ; arrest. I lnOFTS FAOHMOIS , The profits of the bootlegger are enormous. He must be a measurer. an arithmetician and a chemist. He i sells by the 'finger." He figures how ' many drinks there Is in a bottle and 1 when his supply runs fhort he manu
factures It. At Windsor the price for Kentucky whisky Is $3 a quart. In the ordinary quart bottle there are eighteen "throe-Anger" drinks or twenty-six "two-finger" drlnki. In the imperial quarts of Canadian whisky there are twenty three "threefinger" drinks. Kach drink retails from the bottle at 75 cents, which Is "two-bits," lower than the current quotations in Indiana. Thus the bootlegger pulls down $13 50, $13.50. $17.1:5 "Bulgarian Blood Tea" Will add many years to your life. Purines the Blood, Flushes the Kidneys, Gently Mores the Bowels and Sweetens the Stomach. Try It Just once vou will never use anythlna else. Druaflists and Grocers Everywhere.
or $26.26. according to the size and number of drinks taken from the bottle that cost him $3. Scotch whisky la sold by the bootlegger at $6 a pint. All this Is regarded small stuff. The "higher-ups" are the ones who make the soft money. They are the ones who benefit from the big stuff.
Often has a whole city suffered from the efforts of a few bad men.
That Is what has happened to Detroit. It has gained a most unenviable reputation as headquarters for thieves and robbers.
