BURGIN OUT OF CIVIC CLUB

A. C. Burgin, who for the past two year hJ been nwrrtan'-'nan&Kfr ff the, IndlJi Haror Civic Club has resigned hla position with the club to Uk effect September lt. Mr. Burgin hm.3 not yet decided what business he will engage in after September 1st but It ts understood that h ha several good offers from Anns In Indiana Harbor and in other citis. Mr. Eurgin has ben secretary of the Civic Club irlnce lt inception two years go- Jid It has been large through his efforts and enterprise that the club has been able, to accomplish o much of importance to the comunity. As secretary of the club Mr. Burgln has initiated civic movements with the approval of the club members and has carted many of them through to a wjccejssful conclusion. (Among the r.vany problems which have been taken up by the club and results obtained ere: Street and alley sprinkling and paving, street railway service, parks, titration plant, waterways, highway, public utilities, mail service, preservation of law and order, morality, street lighting, street signs, bridge flooTins Americanization, taxation, valuations, shade trees, dining service, housing, and daylight savings. Prior to bginkng his duties aa secretary of the crvnc club Mr. Fturgln was for four years In charge of all the elementary schooln In Indiana Harbor and attained an emvlabla degree of success as an Instructor and organixer. Prior to comingfto Indiana Harbor he had charge of t2ie schools at Bloomfield. InJ. He is a graduate of Indiana VniversTTy where he received his A. B. and M. -A. degrees. During his last years at the. university he was assistant Instructor in the department of education. Me. Burgin is mot ready at the present time to state whether he wil remain in IndianaHarbor or not. everything depending'Nipon which of several positions now vpan to him he decides to accept. It !si possible that he may continue in civic organisation work or educational wrk In some other city or he may engage in business In Indiana Harbor. His many friends are trying to Influence him to remain In Indiana Harbor. Purlng his slx(years In Indiana Harbor Mr. Burgin 'had always taken an active part In thei welfare of the community and was particularly active during the war in the many war ventures. He was a director of the local Bed Cross and always took a prominent part in liberty Loan and other drives . No one has ibee.n selected to fill th Civic Club position u yet.
