July 2i The statement that he would approve a declaration of peace with Germany as soon as it coyld be presented to him by congress made by Senator Warren U. Hard ins: in his speech accepting the republican nomination for the presidency indicates, in the judgment of republicans here, an extra session of congress aft- March 4 next if Senator Harding and'a republican congress are elected. The position taken by the republican party on the league of nations covenant and approved by Senator Harding, leaves no doubt, it is believed, of the republican purpose to defeat finally th--'ilgon league. Congress will be urgfd to declare peace, and to repeal war time laws, but friends of Senator Hard ir.gr do not think he would call congress in extraordinary session unless there was a republican majority in house and senate each. That the extra session Is conlnplated by republicans generally is evidenced by a. telegram received by the senator from Congressman C. Cascom Slemp. of Virginia, congratulating the senator on the speech of acceptance. Slemp wired: 'All i.'astern newspapers interpret speech as calling for an extra session. This will undoubtedly be approved." Senator Harding- called attention, also in his speech to an expected demand for a revision of the tariff to met the republican doctrine of protection for American industries.

Thirty-eight Cleveland Society Women Sick With Queer Ailment.

July 2i Cleveland's ablest physicians are puzzled today over the mysterious malady which has attacked and made seriously III 3S society women of this city and Us suburbs. All attempts at an authoritative diagnosis have failed. Physicians agree that the illness is some form of typhoid fever, but are unable to make a definite diagnosis as to Its exact form or to assign a positive cause. Health authorities and privas physicians are conducting rigid inestigations. The 38 women who are seriously ill and many others who have been made slightly ill were guests at a luncheon gien on June 23 at the home of Mrv George S. Case, in I.akewood. a suburb. They were served, according It Mr. Chase, with sandwiches, ice cream and chicken salad. The caterer who served the food has been investigated and approved. One theory that is being investigated is that the disease may have been communicated by some "person connected with the serving or preparations of the food who is what physicians call a "typhoid carrier.''
