Griffith, another strong team will be th attraction against the Hammond Casoys at the Harrison park diamond -next Sunday. Although Jthy Tifiyed a miserable fame of ball against East ChicaRo, Manager O'Rourka feels confident that tho Hammond team will not turn In another similar exhibition throughout tho rest of the season, hence his reason for scheduling another first class club to face his aggregation next Sunday. Tho Griffith outfit under the management of Cliff Eothwell is made up of a rretty lively bunch of players, including La-wrence 'Halbrlch and "Butch" ililler, both former members of the 'local Casey team. Hilibrich. who pitched for the Hammond Casheys at the Hart of the season Is now doing mound duty for the Griffith crowd and accordI ing to clubs that he has recently faced. J he is going like a house afire. Only a I week ago Sunday he looked great, when he pitched a whale of a game against the East Chicago Caseys. letting them down with a few scattered hits. Al- ' thouyh East Chicago beat him. tho players with the Twin City team last Eunday said Hilbrich pitched remarkable ball and It was only after the stlffest kind of a battle that they were ; able to finish on the long end of a 2 to 1 ecore. Two weeks previous to ' their last game East Chicago played ' Griffith a 13-lnning 3 to 3 tie. so the caliber of the Griffith club may be ' judged by the two close gamea they j put up with the fast Twin City outfft, -who whaled the daylights out of

f the Hammond Caseys last Sunday by ; the score of 10 to 5. The Griffith lineufc which Includes several fast men, will be made up a3 follows: "Homer" Hudson, formerly star receiver w lththe big Hammond team, will do the catching; Lawrence Hilbrich, recent slab artist for the local K. of C.'s will pitch; Cliff Eothwell. manager will take care of first base: Bill "Waiters, of ; late years a pitcher well known to i fens In the Calumet region, acts as captain of the team and plays second base; Heinie "Watts, shortstop: "Butch" Miller, speed artist, who has played several games with the Hammond Caseys, third base; Shorty "Watts, left field; Ray Bothwell. center field and Joe Covert, right field. The Griffith team has a reputation of carrying a bunch of speed artists, particularly the "Watts brothers and Kay Eothwell, all of whom are considered every bit as fast as Butch Miller, who Is noted for his speed on the bases a.s Is well known by local fans who have seen him In action. Manager O'Rourke has announced that the Hammond lineup will have to undergo several new changes owing to the loss of the services of "Sugar" Handy, who was injured in an accident at the "Western Steel Car Foundry Co. last Tuesday, and center fielder Tom Tague, who will again don the pad and mask and travel to Morrfs. 111., where he will be th eregular catcher for the semi-pro team of that city. Tague has been catching such gooJ. ball with tho Locomotive Superheater team on Saturday afternoons, that "Keckie" Moll finally Induced him to go to Morris to tfo the back stopping there. Tague's many local friends wish him the best of luck In his new venture. Fans throughout the region were , chocked when they picked up The Times j on Tuesday evening and read . of the j serious accident which had befallen "Supar" Handy, while he was at work , at the "Western Steel Car Foundries in Hegewlsch. It was with the deepest re- ' grrets that his many friends rtid of the sad news as "Sug" has always been j regarded, by all who knew him as a ("regular fellow." It certainly will be welcome tidings j for his wide circle of friends and acj qualntances to learn that "Suijar" was not as seriously injured as at first re- ; ported.

Skipper Burton hoisted the signal for a day of grace and the biT yacht was hauled -out In dry dock at Staten Island today to be scraped and polished. The Shamrock's skipper evidently believes that under fair sailing-' conditions such as prevailed Wednesday, the challenger has her work cut out to in the deciding race. While Shamrock was given a thorough overhauling today. Resolute was also subjected to a " house cleaning" and both will be spick and span for tomorrow's race. The contest tomorrow will be another triangular affair with at least one leg- of" reaching. Under certain conditions this sort of a race will favor Shamrock . The weather, however, will play a most Important roll in determining the winner. The weather man has a trump card In reserve a card that may be played against either yacht. In a moderate sailing breeze, barring accident. Resolute has proven herself a wonderful racer. In light breezes both yachts have behaved queerly.
