Strong Attempt Made to Swing Prohibition Convention To Support of Sen. Harding BY ALBERT F. RAE..ZIGER STAFF CORRESPONDENT I N. SERVICE LINCOLN. NEB., July 21 Tne strong est attempt made so far to swing the prohibit inn convention which starts here to J ay. to the .--up port of Senator
"Warren G. Harding. renuMiean piesi-'
dentlal nominee. wAj made l-y Co.. J. II. Injrersoti. of Idaho, in an executive session ol the national committee, preceding the convention. Col. Ingers 11 wai formerly a Bull .Mooaor and he is committeeman from his state and he paid the party by indorsing Senator Harding will help in the selection of a man who comes nearer answering their quaitScat ions than the democratic candidate, Gov. James M. C ox. WANT TO SELECT TICKET National Committeeman Robert H. r&;ton. of Illinois, took issvie with the delegate from Idaho and said it would make n difference whether the prohibition nominees had a chance for election or not, it was the duty of the party to select a ticket, and a failure to do so. would be a violation cf their pledge to the people. There ia no doubt tut that the entire matter will be thrown before the crr.vention and threshed out. There are three faction. One ia In favQr of putting a ticket in the field at all hazards: another wants to endorse the republican nominee and the third believes there should not be any candidates presented to the people. There are stiii a large-number of delegates who are in favor of drafting Wm. Jennings Bryan as, their standard bearer although there is not the slightest chance of his accepting. EQUAL SEX IlEPBEKETATIO. For the first time in .the history of any political party members of the rational committee went on record in favor of equal representation of the sexes on the committee. A recommendation for each state to repo: one man and one woman as ielej, ates to the national committee was made by Robert Fatten, of fllinoif. B. E. Prugrh. of Pennsylvania, objected to !t and was supported by "W . C. Dean of Wisconsin, who was not so sure that a woman from his state could be selected that would qualify for the job. He stated it was his belief the delegates should be chosen for the fitness regardless of sex, W. G. Calderwell. of Minneapolis, and ViceChairman of the committee, championed the woman's cause pointing out that now that women was about to receive equal voting power with man she should have equal representation in the party machine. Mr. Calderwell
was the one who called attention that fc so doing the prohibitionists would be the first party to give this right to women. WEIIE SHOOTING CRAPS In calling- the national committee this morning Chairman Hinsha-.v cf Chicago said in part: "Two months ago the anti-liquor organizations had in mind one thing- and that was to make both republican and
aernorratie parties prohibition. They all thought they could get a pi ink in the democratic platform without trouble and possibly one in the G. O. P. platform.' The national committee of our party w-ere the only ones who appeared in Chicago. The two people who were supposed to help Mr. vm. Jennings Bryan in San Francisco were missing and were reported to have been found shooting- craps. As a result there is no prohibition plank in either platform even thousn all of us were anxious to be relieved of a campaign this year. The question we are row facing is not one of law enforcement, but a question of retaining the law. The liqu-r interests are making large expenditures for the election of a certain party and In the event of

E. E. COUNCIL GOES . . INTO SESSION . (Continued from race one)
Out and out flat rejection of the award, with action taken toward calling of a national Ftrike immediately. It appeared early today that one of the Erst three proposals would constitute the final decision of the union heads. While pome of the more radical element of the grand council was reported to be in favor of a flat rejection It Is thought the big four and other conservative brotherhood leaders would be able to maintain control over the council's deliberations and that their judgment would prevail. SOME ARE NOT SATISFIED That there is dissatisfaction with tha award among a number of the brotherhood powers is certain, but this, it Is pointed out, is offset by a strong fntlment for conservative action. The railroad telegraphers and maintenance

of way workers were said to be anions the groups opposed to the award while the locomotive engineers and shop men were reported as leaders of the element "favoring the board's decision. Generally, the sentiment seemed to be against taking any action involving the immediate calling i.f a strike. NO lMMI-'.OIATi: STRIKE ''No mutter what the decision of tlv grand council is to be. whether the award is accepted or rejected, the action of the virions will Ve concerted and deliberate." declared W. CI. Lee. one of the "Lig Four." and president of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. "It is certain that there will be no sporadic or immediate railroad strike." A compilation of ngiires prepared by Samuel O. Dunn, editor of "Railway Age" shows that as a result of the award, the wag 'S of railroad employes wMl be 115 per cent more from thij time than they ve.-p in 1914. Tm. award, said Mr. Dunn, will make the wages of railroad workers exceed the cost of living by from 35 to 100 per tent.

Building Fine Homes At Harbor Sunlight Dwellings for 200 Inland Steel Employes to Be Sold On Time. Looking ahead Just a hit. When the chilly days of nitumn come and cheerful firesides beckon folks to stay indoors there will be 200 more new homes in a certain part of Indiana Harbor. Home time in the fall the first of thse dwellings will be occupied. By Christmas they will shel ter 2 if families, according to the program now being carried out. PROfiR ESS I.IKE A MOVIE REEL The transformation of 13 city blocks of ground, south of 14th street and east of Alder street from a vacant stretch to a group of winding, charming streets of 200 cosy homes is now

June A reel that shows men and excavating apparatus lveling small hills, filling holes, laying sewers, carving cut streets, putting in concrete foundations; July more than 80 dwellings well under way, half of them under rrt,f. A visit to the district disci,, ses 500 busy men, a battalion of grading teams huge Mores of building material, with more arriving by the t rai nloud. ami collection of temporary buildings, which are the grading camp, offices and tord sheds. There is. n constant putter from a myriad of carpenters' hammers, ru'tlng nails, the chug-chug of concrete mixing machinery, and all of the noises that go with the building of a community in various stages of construction progress from Mreet gradir.g to house roofing. "CO M Ml' NIT Y OP SI NI ICillT" This building o the "conimun it y "of sunlight" every dwelling and every room in that dwelling has ligni is being carried on by the Indiana Harbor Homes Company, a subsidar, organize'! by the Inland Steel Company
to provide homes for Inland employ
es at Indiana Harbor. Buit on scientific plans, in the most modern fashion, these houses ate to lie sold on easy terms, to the employes of the big Inland t-teel Company at Indiana Harbor. The new subdivision Is section "A" nnd is the first of a series of housitig projects to lie undertaken by the Indiana Harbor Humes Company, which acquired S60 acres for housing purposes. , COMPRISING 13 CITY BLOCKS Plans for section "A" also provide for curved streets, instead of the. conventional rectangular arrangement of tity blocks, installation of all modern utilities, and finally the beautifying of the present 13 city blocks with lawns, trees an flowers. Arrangements have been completed for the installation of water and gas pipes, sewers are bting put in. telephone and electric wire poles ;ire t no on rear of lots; and paving of the graded streets, building of curbstones and installation of cement t-idewalks boon will be under way. The cream of the experience gained In the Hyar housing projects in Amer
ica is being utilized at Indiana Har
bor, and that is shown in the binding streets, the sunlight arrangement, beauty in design with an eye to economy of operation of the house after it is occupied. HELPING EMPLOYES TO GET HOMES By building the houses in mass group for 200 families and then selling them at cost the future occupants, the employe sof the Inland Stvel company, will not only re-iye the benefit in price that comes from buying housing material in large quantities and the incidental lower cost of construction, but no profit will accrue to the Indiana Harbor Company, and the 20'J sunlissht dwellings will be sMd exactly a cost to the Inland employes. And the Inland men will buy these homes on the easy-payment plan.
