STATE DUNE PARK BILL OPPOSITION ORGANIZED

VALPARAISO. Ind. July 14 The Chamber of Commerce, Porter County farmers Federation and other organizations met here last niprht to protest iiiTainst the proposed bill to be introduced at the special session of the legislature for the establishment of a sate park in the dunes of Porter county. The opponents of the bill say that this attempt by Lake and La-Forte-country interest to have Porter county lake frontage reserved for park purposes is a scheme to close the industrial pate of the county, thereby enhancing the property of these two counties. The, bill calls of the establishment of a park containing eight and onethird miles of lake front. The boundary committee appointed by Chamber of Commerce decided on a three-mile area. Forter county has three good harbors which are being sought by industrial plants. The bill as proposed asks that the state appropriate fl. 000.000 for the purchase of the land. Twenty-five porter county citizens will visit Indianapolis to protest to Governor Goodrich concerning the bill's passage.

HAVE YOU ANY RECORDS AT HOME? Loflk over your phonograph records and sort out the ernes you are tired of. Doesn't matter what sort of selections they are Jazz, sacred, ballads, martial or what not. Wrap them in a bundle and either turn them over ti some member of the Hammond W. C. T. U. or phone 1259M and some one will call for them. :frs. Culla Vayhiner, state president f the W. C. T. U has sent an appeal to the Hammond organiiation to collect phonograph records for distribution among the U. 3. navel vessels. Mrs. Vayhinger recently visited ships in the port at Philadelphia and found that while the ships were fitted with sood talking machines, the records were old and in bad condition. The boys like th music, but are tired of the old records. Hammond should be able to furnish a heavy quota.

Legislative

Notes

'V V. M. DLOG ICTT. J. Glenn Harris, representative from Lake county, does not believe in waiting. 11 is a candidate for speaker of, the next house, and. although he has not been re-elected a member of the legislature yet, he takes It for granted that he will be elected and is busy trying t pledge the members who are candidates for re-election to vote for him f.r speaker at the next regular session. Harris never goes to sleep on any Job In which he has an interest.

The little gentleman in light suit and peekaboo hat, who sits on the side line of the legislature, is John McFadden. of Gary, who la the town-

Ship assessor of Gary. He never says a word and does not greet many persons, but there is nothing that happens Jn either house that he does not know. He is very much interested in taxation matters. Oh, of course, if there is anything in impending bills that would increase his Salary he would not get angry About It.
