the Star Spargled Hanner ct aid i:ot have been more emotion-inspiring. Tbrour-buat the whole tor vent ion there have been surprises for the auditors and spectators. Eands Lave played, pipe cr grans thundered and glee clubs sung their roundelays. New entertainment has .been offered each day. Yesterday before the roll call of states, Senator Robinscu introduced J ..! ere Franklin Murasky of San Francisco, who retired th.' 15af.!e Hymn of Republic, to the soft accompaniment of the preat pipe organ. Atthe end of the first stanza, a female quartet stationed in he back gallery caupht up the refrain and then the entire audience joined in with a huge volume of Found that swelle 1 ar.d swelled until the hall reverberated with the strains cf the grand old hymn.

Probably never pain v. ill San Francisco functien as host to another national political convention. No city can be "expected to live down the ethical handicap Which San Francisco voluntarily placed upon their fair community. At the open in 2 of the democratic convention everything was so different from what convention veterans bad ever experienced in long and conscience-deadening service, or what f.r. t termers expected, that the Golden Gate city probably w;;i never again bo voted as the site uyrm which to name a standard bearer for either of the great parties. For In San Francisco, delecra'es discovert, it cFt

-toe-rat.- anyway.

We do not

no more to live than they lugan to swarm there. They found no grafting, no gouging and no sandbagging. Ever w here there was politeness and a friendly atmosphere. Apparently San Francisco has left uo stone unturned to damage her reputation as a convention tewn. A stranger's finest Ion produced a polite, Intelligent and informative reply. Hotel clerks were glad to he of service, not iu the regular perfunctory nffitdal toplofty manner, but in a real human-being, g!ad-to-see-yo-,i-c( mfortaMe way. It would be. unbelievable were it not vouched for by two outstanding gh.betroitum veterans, Charles Edward Russell and Irvin Coldi. Hoth are shattered, nerveless and unstrung from their first few days in San Francisco. Everything they expected is missing --every thing they never dreamed posMde is constantly present Imsily at. work. They are aot i barged a fortune for a room and meals in a hotel only the regular rates. There is no profiteering in anything. Even the policemen are courteous nnd astonishingly polite and helpful to strangers. In a word, San Francisco is what th city's people expected it would be --glad of the chance to welccme the delegates and visitors without a string to the fraterna'i.m. How can the city expect to compete with the great convention robbery centers of the East? ONLY A START. T'ntil the figures proposed by a congressional commissi' n for revision of the wages of postal service etn, fdoyes are digested, by the principals, it may not he possible vcn to guess how far the higher pay uggested will be satisfactory. The outsider is scarcely (onipftmt to order final decision for the postal clerks, city carriers and others concerned. The man whose selfish interests are not at. all concerned except in a rcundahout indirect manner is Km easily satisfied with the earnings put into the other man's hands. He is too often p enured in advance to assert and even try to prov" that what is offered to t lie other fellow is plenty. This may be the case with the wage incident of the postal service employes. What may content the man who has eo interest in the postal department except in his incidental contact with the service may be far from quieting the man who is spending his life there in an undivided allegiance and faithful labor. Only the postal employes ar-3 fully competent to pass upon the quality of the relief proposed in the terms of the commission. On one, print there is unanimous agreement outside the postal department as well as in it That is on the pitifully small pay too long forced upon hard working and loyal servants of the people If there is one accusation tl? public will find it difficult to swallow in silence it is that we as a people are hard taskmasters. With living costs mere than 100 per cent above prewar days, as an average, the.pitifulness of a basic wage of from fSf'O to Jl.1'00 per year speaks for itself better than any words the postal employes can dig up. With the dollar cut in half, the real meaning is that the clerks and carriers are receiving, not a minimum of ?S00 and a maximum of ? 1,200, but half that much. And anyone with a knowledge of elemental arithmetic can soon find cut how far a man can go supporting Limself, leaving his family out of the reckoning, on $400 a year by using his own wages as a basis of reckoning. The proposed new figures should be only a beginning toward giving justice to the postal workers.

THE NEW YORK barbers who demand 90 minutes off for dinner thus indicate their affluance. If they did not have lots of money a half-hour would be plenty.

THE QUESTION IS: How far can old Hi Cost fall before he gets hurt? 1

Do not allow the Time to Pass with Nature Unaided

' I HE sculpturing of a statue is a greater thing than the unveiling of it ; and so the growth of the unborn infant under iis mother's influence is no less important than its entrance into the life that follows. No woman awaiting the joy of corning motherhood should allow the days to pass without giving nature a helping hand. Mother's Friend is a veritable balm ' for the nerves, an intensely penetrating application that softens the muscles, relaxes nervous tension of the delicate organism involved in maternity, and prepares the w ay for an easier, quicker, and practical deliver. USED BY THREE GENERATIONS As a direct and powerful aid for the relief of the distressing phases in expectancy, and in the alleviation of the hardships that usually come with, child-bearing.

The "LL'RA" preparations are on sale by dealers in widely distributed territories throughout the country, and are advertised on an extensive scale in those localities where they are sold. This city is one exampleSome idea of the broad scope of the business can be obtained from the fact that one order placed by the Company called for 500,000 containers for one of their preparations. The " LL'RA Vanity" sold over the country at 50c is a small and handy article, protected by patent, and enjoys tremendous popularity with women everywhere. It is the only article of its kind on the market at the price. Preferred Stock Is Now Offered In line with the Company's plans to establish itself as the largest concern of its kind in the country. There are hundreds of stockholders in the Company throughout the country, chiefly in those cities where the Company's goods are on sale. This is due to the interest and favorable esteem in which the goods are held by people who know the merit of the products of the Company. The desire of the Company is to have more of such stockholders whose efforts to help increase the sale of goods among their friends can be effective because the goods are on sale locally. This plan is now in operation in other states and is proving satisfactory and profitable to shareholders. Shares at $10.
