Kor the financial drive? the followisp committees have been appointed for the different ritief: Hammond W. C. Beiman. chairman J. O. Dickson, secretary. Irxiiana Harbor John R Farovtd. tntJrmm; Edward Rihl. secretary. East ChicaffA E. W. Wickey, chairman; Hans rtersn. secretary. J. C. Young ef Hammond is benera! chiirmm. I speaking of the movement today Mr. loans sa;d: "The effort -which is now being made in '.he various communities of the Calumf district to extend religious instruction is very significant. It is a religious movement of great importance. This attempt on the part of the churches to entend their influence and to make their ministry more effective is worthy of commendation. The movement, however, hu a. far wider significance than mere!y an extension of the influence of the churches. It is an educational movement of the highest importance. From the standpoint of education, it is rrobably the most significant movement since the educational revival of the second quarter of the nineteenth century. This being the oa.se. it shouid have the support of all the forces of the communities which are interested in the rrcper education of children and youth, r'ana are now under way for extending this work next year. Two schools were maintained during the last school year a' Indiana Harbor, and the results accomplished were far reaching in importance. The Board of Religious Education of the Calumet district purposes to extend this work to other communities next year. In this effort thev should receive the hearty support of all the comTc.un.ties. They are rendering a service ;i education, the value of which is incalculable. The people are not hesitat;rx to invest their money in civic, moral ard vocational education, and they are wise in maims these expenditures. Ail r these aims rf education, however, v-thout the religious element are defcwve. The plan is intended to introcuce this element and when this is done we shall have the most effective systems of education to be found anywhere in the country."
