www in jii l mammm i jliiiuusi l ,j. most remarkable were the dramatic entertainment j staged by the pupils under the direction of Misa Ilesa Corey, teacher of reading and expression Familiar stories for the most part form ed the basis of these playlets .the children in many cases giving their owfl interpretation in dramtic form. Aside from the performances given in the school. Miss Corey diiected a series of dramatic sketches known a-i the "Toy Shop I'lays" civea at the Catherine House. These met with such success that she was induced to produce another series at the Washngton high school auditori.um, consisting of sketches from "iJaddy I.ong l.igs." "01ier Twist'' and "Kip Van Winkle.' The unaffected realism and thoroughness with which the children produced their parts and the consummate por trayal uf these familiar stories stamped the entire affair a3 a complete success. In recognition of Miss Coroys unique abilities and her untiring effort to make her work real value to the community, the patrons of the school circulated a petition asking that she be retained during the summer for the purpose of teaching Toy Shop dramatics and reading. This was done under the auspices of the Parent-Teacher Association, recently organized in the Washington gratis school more than one hundred signatures were secured.
