The league is nonpartisan, the object being to instruct the women in methods of voting, legislative affairs, etc. The meeting of the Old Settler's club is calif! for Tuesday evening. June 1. to be held at the II. S. auditorium. There is an amendment before the club to accept as charter members those living in Whiting and vicinity, who have been residents for 15 years and who are thirty-nine years of age. Any one eligible under this amendment or otherwise should attend this meeting or send in names' to Mrs. Mary A. Schaaf, president, or Mrs. Cora Eaton, secretary. All old settlers are invited to this meeting. Mrs. Ieo iWinsberg and daughter, Sylvia, of Cleveland avenue, have returned from a two month's sojourn in California. Co., is recovering from injuries at her home in Oliver street sustained by a fall 'while at work. Two bricks had been thrown through it. making a hole just large enough to get a auit on a form through. The Gordon's were notified and found fcur men's suils gone from their show window, two pair of oxfords and a hat. The window and clothing loss are bo-th covered by insrurance. The officer on the beat say he passed the store at 2 a. m. and all wass well, and coming back at 2:15 he made thf discovery. One of the forms on which the clothing stor-d was found in the rear of Pete Peterson's yard, on Cleveland avenue. ST. JOHN The funeral of Mrs. John N. Schmal was held at the St. John Catholie church on Thursday morning at 1' o'clock under the auspice of the Rosary sc-ciety of which she was a member. Solemn requiem high mas was read by Kev. A. Badina, assisted by Rev. Villiam Berg of Schererville and Kev. Koenig of Turkey Creek. A very large circle of friends and relatives attended to pay their lat respects to the deceased. Mrs. Schmal was born at St. John on April 5, 1SS0. being the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matheas Wachter. She was united in marriage to John X. SchmAl, May 9. 1905, and has resided on their farm east of here until three years ago when poor health required a change of clim-ate, tpending the last three winters at Foley, Ala., where she died la.t Monday morning. She is survived by her husband and two children. Iauretta. aged 13, and Wilbur, Aged' IS years, besides her father, Math"7 Wachter, two brothers, John and Fran, Wachter, and one sister, Mrs. Edwar NT. Thiel. Miss Msry Kammer returned Friday morning- from several weeks stay at Hammond.
