An Acknowledgment of the Great Success of Our May Sales and Drive for 20,000 New Customers WE wish to express our heartiest appreciation to the people of Hammond and all Lake County for the wondrous success of our May Sales and Drive for 20,000 New Customers. All during the month customers, new and old alike, came in, sharing the advantages of the greatest sale, we believe, that any store in these parts ever had. Only a great, safe, sure building with two acres of floor space could have accomplished it, but it was done with the usual excellent service that we always strive to maintain. "The secret of success," said a wise philosopher, "is in being believed in." We accept that statement. We believe that the people believed in our great May Sales and its meaning; its merchandise that was offered is real, generous Minas' value at the low prices we offered. We want all our customers to believe that we are most interested in seeing them get what is best for the purpose in view, fulfilling every requirement for the person or the home.

We're going to be believed in here in Hammond; we're making our success dependent on it; the fact that this business is growing, indicates that the belief is growing; the success of the May Sales helped to prove that. You may take our word for it that June will bring forth timely displays, brimming over with brand new merchandise that bids fair to make this one of the happiest of all summers. Edwarid C. Minas Co.

It is hoped by this change and boost

in the wage eale that more applicanta will be tempted to serve the public need as telephone operatora. The company states that the burden of these wage adjustments should convince the most skeptical, that nothing is left undone to render service equal to the public need and that, when the rate that their patrons will cheerfully agree to such adequate adjustment as the Ttility Commission sees fit to grant, realising as they must do, that money in huge sums, such as this expenditure incurs does not grow on trees. but must be willingly borne by the subscribers in the system in exchange for service rendered. The Telephone Company unequivocallystates that it is only by this means that the Telephone Company can maintain its force and endeavor to satisfy the public. The change takes effect May 30th.

SPIRITUAL, REGENERATION. Christian Science was first brought to my attention in the fall of 1884, and under the following circumstances. About half or my life, up to that time had been spent in be-d. The physicians all said I had been born with an incurable organic disease, and that it was improbable that I would live to rtch manhood. Their statements emeJ about to be proved true when, through a case of healing, Christian Science was brought into -our home. Thjs led to my having Christian Science treatment, so successfully that three months later our family physician said a miracle had been performed and that I was absolutely free from any physical disease. lWause of my condition and as a preparation for what was deemed inevit

able, God had been explained to me far

mom than is usual with a small child:

and the statement frequently made that;

- jMi-j4.il ess a-na suffering as a

chastening and purifying preparation

for the joys of tHe kingdom of heaven. NaturaJly, however, the only thing I thought of was the suffering, and when I was told that God caused it a terrible seruso of fear and of helplessness arose, when love and trust should have been present. We can never love nor trust anything of which we are afraid; there, fore the thoughts about God were locked inside my consciousness, because of my fear of giving them utterance. The name, and not the nature, of God, then as now, was all that most people knew; so my surprise was great and unqualified when I learned that the healing work in Christian Science is &,!! accomplished through a right knowledge of God; that there is nothing peculiar or

secret about the work done, nor is the ability to do it confined to a select few-

it is to be a.cquired through growth in grace. Iu fact. Christian Scknce gives j

numaruty a clear apprehension of the birthright of man, of how to gain it. and how to use it. Christian Science unfolds to its students that knowledge of God which keeps one well mentally, morally, and physically, and shows that ignorance of Him is the procurer of sin. sickness, and deAth. It teaches that regenerated

minKing means regenerated living in all ways. It reveals through an endless infinite vista of Christian idealism, God enthroned and omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient, and the fact tujt r.n

may intelligently oa.ll upon Him in any time or need and always find Him right at hand, ready to heal and save. This teaching brings God to us as a real presence, instead of an ephemeral hope, and so establishes the fact normally and naturally that He has dominion over all things, including the ills of the flesh, and will destroy all evils, whether they present themselves as mental, moral, or

Physical, when He is intelligently fed to do so. It has been said that the Chriu, Scientists are too 'familiar with d. They are farryliar with God becv, knowing Him to be w hat He is. knov Hib to be both the Father and Mo;r of all ILis children, they go to Him all their troubles, sure that His love 3 wisdom w-ill dispel them. It is j., however, in this connection to say tt no people 011 earth so venerate, wprsl and axiore Him as do Christian Sci. tists, and this is true because Ho nn
