On the other hand, if you hHl jour Liberty Bond now, you w ili fiud that the man wu .sell it to will not give you a dollar for every dollar you paid for it. Th price has been brought .lowu because so many people are offering to sell (heir bonds. If 'he market is flooded with tomatoes, yr-u can buy them cheap, but if everyone is lainorinji for tomatoes and there are few to be had, the price poes up. The same is? true of Liberty I'.onds. Short -tdfihie.i people are dumping thein ou the market, and wise ones are buying them. A BIG MAN NEEDED FOR IT. It should be the settled poliey of political putties to nominate for ihe. Aire presidency a man of full presidential size. There have been occasions in th past when men of mediocre ability have pern piven vice presidntial nominations. Some such men have been elected, and two of 'hem sue-eeded to the presidency to the detriment of their party and country. The vice presidency was intended by the framers of the constitution to be a post of stoat dignity and honor. True, the active duties are not of themselves especially important, thrush the function of presiding over the deliberations of the senate of the United States is one, of no small moment. Hut the constitutional provision for the succession of the vice presi-
hesd Union in promptly answering that it most certainly would support Johnson, adding: "Hiram Johnson is not the sort of a man it wishes to see nominated and with certain of his views it is not in accord at all. With certain other policies he advocates, however, it has a lively and abiding sympathy and it realizes full well that he would come much nearer squaring with its views than anything that could possibly come forth as the fruitage of the San Francisco (onvention. Hiram Johnson would be a bitter pill but he would be infinitely prefrable to the strychnine s".bstitute from 'Frisco." INDEPENDENCE FOR ARMENIA. Inasmuch as neither the United States nor any other power has been willing to accept a mandate to govern Armenia, the supreme council of the allies, sit-
i ting at San Renin, has decided to make it an inde-
dent to the presidency makes ihis great office easily the pendent state. The announcement is welcome, parti-
secend in importance in our national economy. The post is one which affords a rostrum to any man of ability, from which he may address his countrymen with assurance that ail he says will be accorded a respectful hearing. The present occupant of a post filled by siime of the greatest figure? in our national history, has seen fit on mere than one occasion to make light of the vice presidency, but It may be said that the office is at ail times at least as big as the man who fills it. The candldare of The republican Tarty for the vice presidency of the United States, to be hosen at the approaching national convention, will in all human probability be the vice president after March 4th. and from that date for four years he will he the one
cularly because the unwillingness of the Kuropean diplomats to drive the suiran out of Constantinople bad given rise to the unpleasant thought that they might also hesitate to fear his erasp loce from unhappy Armenia. It is also gratifying that the United States has been so quick to grant recognition to the new-nation.
1 ne Armenians set up a republic some time ago i Recognizing its independence does not absolve the allies 1 from the moral obligation to protect it. They cannot ' honorably wash their hands of further participation in j Armenian" affairs. It has been a disgrace that such I conditions as have ben reported to exist in Armenia j at a recent date have been tolerated by the victors in j the war. A year and a. half after the armistice was j

dential stature will be chosen as the running mate of ( trjCan veterans of Armenian origin, wearing the uni
the republican presidential candidate. Jt js to he hoped, moreover, that th man nominated for the presidency will be of sufficient caliber to understand the respect and consideration due the man chosen to share the responsibilities of national leadership. The vice president should be an intimate personal and official associate and collaborator of the president of the United States. There may be no constitutional provision for this, but patriotism and common sense require that the second in command of the national government should be at all times in intimate touch with all questions. Fate may at any time place upon him the responsibilitv for handling.
YOUR LIBERTY BOND. The United States government borrowed money from you to finance the war. You hold the government's promise to pay you back. This promise is called a Liberty Bonad or Victory Note. In this Bond is stated the conditions under which the government borrowed the money from you. For instance: If you hold a bond of the Third Liberty Loan- it states that on April lath and October loth cf each year until maturity, you will receive interest on the amount you paid for the lond. Other issues bear other rates of interest and other maturity dates, all of which are clearly stated on the bond. Now, if vou keep your bond until the date when the. government pays you in full for it. y-u do not need to worry if. in the meantime, the juice is low one riay
form in which they served in the United States army, went to Washington and presented a memorial to congress asking for recognition of the republic of Armenia. It was pointed out that while the enemy, at the conclusion of hostilities, was at once compelled to evacuate France, Belgium and Serbia, and while the liberated nationalities of Poland and Czechoslovakia were started without delay upon their newcareers, practically nothing has been done as yet for Armenia. Yet the last was the greatest sufferer of all. Armenia has been entitled to more consideration than she has received, not only on the ground of humanity but also in return for the services she rendered as an ally.
IN A BID for the growing overall trade a New York store has cut men's suits from $75 to $37. r0. And no claim is made that the goods are being sold below cost et. Draw your own conclusion.
MIl.WAl'KKE has elected a Socialist mayor for the third time, but this is not the only evidence that Milwaukee is not an American city.
GERMANY is to get another sharp note from the allies. Since so many sharp notes have been ineffective, why not be blunt with them?
