met . Kach of the numbers listed abioc represents a crossroad. At each crossroad lylnj; in the travelers route a Steffen-post hsbeen erected and bears the number of that cross-road. These SI eff en-posts are also provided with metal pointers which indicate which direction the traveler should turn in order to reach the next crossroad shown on his route list. For example, as the ttaveler approaches cross road !)it, which is located at the corner .f Standard and Calumet avenues.
it will be noted that the pointers at the top of the Steffen-post is provided with the following number pointing north HAMMOND, pointing west 116. pointing nnuth 333. and pointing east 414. it is therefore evident that in order to reach the next crossroad, which is shown on the above route list as 414. the traveler should turn east. When reaching intersection 414 the pointer directing the traveler to intersection 137 is pointing southward, which Is the direction to be taken. Hy following the above method a very fair idea of the way the St ffe n-( 1 uide works will result.
