Perhaps n other fraternal society has performed a greater service to the community than has the Knight of Pythias during the last few days. Jlore than 720. POO men of the Vnited States and Canada are members of the Order. There are fifty-four grand domains and over 7.500 lodges. The Order has proved itself loyal to country. More than SO.OOO young men of the Order crossed the seas or were ready for embarkation when the armistice was siffned. The rythian Order was the first to write into its "Ritual the flajr ceremony: it was the first American fraternity to enforce the sole of rituals printed in Knglish; it was the first to disbar from membership men epgajr'i in the lifii,ir traffic. It has made war on all things not safe and sane and doe9 everything possible for making: the world better.

The war record of the members of

this Order is second to none. Besides

Savings Accounts for Children Having a bank book for a child somehow or other seems to suggest why this or that dime should not be spent foolishly. Rather, give it to the little one and some day the money will come in handy. Every child ought to have a savings account. And when the youngster is able to earn 'money on his or her own initiative that account will grow faster. A dollar will get a bank book for a child.

Bricks Go Up The price of common brick has been advanced again. This time 2 dollars more per thousand. Hardly a month goes by unless building materials rise in price, and building wages are on a steady increase. This suggests; if fire wholly or only partially destroys your building it would cost you much more to replace it now than when you built it. Have you enough insurance to replace your building? If you aren't sure consult us.

Outside tho mob clamored and ham

mered on the gtass doors. The police realljlng the situation as the crowd

grew by scores, took Casey tc a back door cf the theatre where he was escorted to a near-by house. Later the

theatre doors were thrown cpen and the word tent around that Casey had escaped. All night the gang watched every Chicago bound street car for a glimpse of the elusi-ve Irondale gangster. '

The dance haii was crowded at the time of the fight. More than 100 girls with reddened hps and very pink cheeks came to the dame from South Chicago. Half a hundred well known Hammond girls were there also. A rumor said that two ftreet car loads ef Irondale men passed through W'hiting but seeing the rnob gathered In front of the dance hall rode on without getting off. Attempts by police to line up the ring leaders of the '"Whiting gans have met with failure. They are said to hall

from that section of the city which lies under the shadow- of the Standard Oil smoke stacks. Trate members of the city administration are groping for some way to cope with the gang and its fights. All indications point to a murder before the war between rival fa tions is ended. According to !-:-earn Mullaney. veteran members of the Whiting police department, if th" fights continue it will be as much a taking one's life in his hands for a Whiting young man to get off a street, car at White City in the near future.
