DEAD BABY FOUND BY GARBAGE MAN IN WEST HAMMOND h:ef o' Police Niti of West Ham mond was faced with a mystery yes terday afternoon when a garbage col lector found the body of a child, ev idently at least two weeks old. in r garbage box at the, rear of 417 West State street The man in emptying the box no ticed a large bundle enclosed in heavy wrapping paper, and examination re vealed the body of the baby swathed in gauze. It was frozen stiff and had probably been there for several weeks. Bruises on the side of the face and forehead lead to the belief that the baby had not died a natural death. The body was taken to the. county morgue this afternoon for examination which vvill probably reveal the manner of death. Chief Nitz as yet has no clue as to w ho disposed of the child in this man net- but believes that he will learn something within a few days after the matter becomes generally known. E.
