When home citizens prepared for their big Welcome Home celebration in honor of he city's returned soldiers and sailors, who furnished the heavy donations of cash and materials? Solicitors never dreamed of going to Chicago and asking the proprietors of stores and mail order houses for aid. They knew it would be useless.
Home merchants came forward and made the day a success. They were able to do this because of the patronage of home people in the past. The Chicago dealer cares little for the welfare of Hammond or any other place outside of Chicago. The lesson is, "Stand by the men who stand by the home town."
