MEN'S CLUB OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH GATHER About twenty-five men of the Trcsbyterian Church of Hammond. assc:i,- ! ed in the parlors of the church on Wednesday evening awd organized the Men's Club of the Presbyterian church. The commute- i.-n this organization hiiidej in a resolution stating the objfcts of the Club which were at follows: The purpose of the Club shall be to create anj maintain among men of the c:y of Hammond on Interest hi church and civic affairs, to aid the work of Amerh anizirg ail classes ,, people in the community , to entourage j.monc its memi-eis the consideration all q iescfi.'ns relating to the physjcf.l. moral and spiritual welfare of the city; and to promote a spirit of wholeS' me goodfellowship. After the 0raanization it was determined th men would have charge of the evening services on the; first Sundiiy of each month during the year at which time they would secure speakers from abroad that would bring interesting messages to further the object of the association. P.eports from the gymnasium committer showed that the gymnasium campaign is working out very nicely, particularly on Tuesday and Friday evening when the business men clasFes se-ured large attendance; volley ball being the program for the evening . Several companies clubs were organised and regular schedule, will be carried out. Upon the adjournment of the regular business meeting, coffee and weenies were served by the Club and the evening was greatly enjoyed by all in attendance. The opinion of all was that, the. Men's Club of the Preshy teria n Church would be heard from th's coming year. WHAT HOME SERVICE IS DOING The Home Service Department of the Hammond Chapter, American lied Cross, has tendered service t0 ono hundred and seventy-eight different men and their families during the past month. This service comprises every sort of assistance from preparirg and securing affidavits, letters and other "supporting evidence" in allotments, back pay, bonus and also the re-lnstatement and conversion of their government insurance, to more personal sarvice. in helping untangle difficult domestic problems, providing medical and other professional assistance and financial aseitance to tide ovt-r in emetgencies. The care of cur disabled men and assistance in securing for them the care and compensation to which they arc entitled. U the biggest tak now on hand. Puring the month of October The Home Service, Department has had ovr thirty of these to look after and that is only a part of the number already given assistance. More are coming to us each d3y. The first business of the Td Cross at this t'me is to see that this "job" is thoroughly well done, so that no nan, who gave tip his health or hla business to serve the countiy, slip 11 fail to receive al lthe help ppsslble from the community, in getting back, as nearly as possible, to his former condition of health and independence.
