The family escaped injury and the tire department extinguished the blaze after considerable damage had been done. They were booked as follows: Vigo Orescan, 2.V0 Adams St., Mato Orescan. a brother. 2500 Adams St., Mary Markovlch. 1078 Adams St. and John Baxtolota, 1014 Broadway. That some of the Gary foreigner are getting rich In the liquor trafficwas shown by the fact that when Bar-to-lota was searched, over nine hundred dollars in currency was found n tils person. In each Instance they furnished a $310 cash bond and were released.

At 5:00 , o'clock a general fire alarm was turned ' in w hen fire In a room near a chimney i In the center of the upper third floor was discovered. It spread raridly to the second floor and through the entire bui'.ding. All the fire departments arrived promptly on the soene. The roomers of the hotel wrre driven from the burning building like rats out of a hole. U. S. COMANDEERS COLORADO COAL (INTERNATIONAL NEWS SERVICE) DENVER. Col.. Oct. 29. The action of the United States railroad administration In commandeering all lignite coal mined in Colorado from today until next Saturday, the date of the threatened nation-wide coal strike, was necessary in order that railroads in the Rocky Mountain region might be assured of sufficient fuel to operate trains, it was declared today. The order does not effect the bituminous snd anthracite producing fields of southern and 'Western Colorado. Efforts were bing continued today by sttae and civic authorities to prevent a efhut-down of the mines if the stride goes into effect. It is believed, however, that the men will abide by the order of the international officers and cease work Nov. 1. Reports from Cheyenne indicate that the seven thousand coal miners in Wyoming will obey the strike order.
