spared the uncertainty that is created by the contrary evidences of doctors' optimistic bulletins and still more doctors and yet still more? The country ought to be told the truth and the whole truth and spared the confusion that Is inseparable from the character of the professional bulletins Issued from the White House and the testimony offered by the daily addition of a new rpeclalist to the staff at the executive mansion.
MAKING THEM UNDERSTAND. That the campaign against would-be revolutionists in the Middle "West is in the hand;? of the military authorities -will be gratifying to friends of law and order, despite an Inbred dislike of the cloak of armor in our streets. The moment has been reached when the situation has so far advanced as to demand mere expeditious treatment than can be administered through civil processes. The military can act sternly and promptly; it can cut red tape. This it seems to be doing at Gary and as result there is fear in the hearts of the agitator? through out the nation. That the "Reds" are being dealt with firmly will bring assurance to many citizens, although at no time has there been reason greatly to fear the outcome. The disturbers are numerically an insignificant minority. Bat they are a dangerous minority, as ruthless as any criminal. To yield an inch to them is to invite trouble. It Is unquestionable that when the period of insanity has passed and the "revolutionaries" are forgotten, a review wil Ishow that the number of native-born Americana in their ranks was negligible. Real Americans are cot deluded by false doctrine. Here is the frjrest evidence of the soundness of the republic.
MAKING MONKEYS OF MEN. A full generation having passed since the pathetic cape of Dr. Brown Sequard was forgotten, it may be believed the world is ripe for a day of wonderment over the dIscoerle3 of Dr. Serge Vonoroff. Brown-Sequard was goini; to restore the aged to youth and virility by pumping into men an elixir of his own concotlng and which lie had tried out on himself. He was 71 at the time and he lived live years longer, but long before death mercifully relieved him of the misery of contemplating mo of the highest reputations in medical history laughed to fcorn throughout the world, he had admitted that his "tlixir of life" had no power to do more than buoy the hopes of the credulous before taking. Dr. Voronoff appears to have profited little from the experience and disappointment of Dr. Brown-Sequard. True ,he does not claim for his method of treating the decrepit that it will thwart death or even postpone the inevitable end of man. He simply says .that. hi3 experiments with men and beasts convince him that it is possible to keep men vigorous, which should mean useful, beyond the time when they naturally begin to fail physically. Dr. Brown-Sequard resorted to sheep to secure the life-giving ingredient of his mixture, but those gentle animals are still most useful to man as wool producers and as mutton. Dr. Voronoff finds in monkeys the gland essential to be grafted into decrepit man in order to rejuvenate him. This is the first serious intimation that monkeys might be made to serve a useful purpose, save as entertainers. And there will be wide doubt whether it can be regarded as useful if we grant credence to the claims of Dr. Voronoff. Wo may question if the monkey treatment will make old men as active as the Jungle denizens robbed for their benefit, but that will interest the student less than the fact apparent by his mere statement Dr. Voronoff has made monkeys out of about as many people over the earth as Brown-Sequard did. Verily, hope springeth eternal in the human breast. The wonder is that men are not more discriminating in placing their hopes.

WHAT IS THE TRUTH? If this country is functioning without a president and being kept in the dark, about the situation in the sick room it is high time that the people knew it. The Fort Fort Wayne News says that when President Wilson was first taken Hi one physician his own private medical attendant, the ever punctual Dr. Grayson sufficed. A the president began to improve it was found that three were necessary. His steadfast progress to recovery is noted daily in the bulletins and now it takes five of them. Is there to be no end of the nonsense? If the president is as seriously ill as the increasing number of experts and specialists would indicate is the case, why cannot the country be frankly told the truth and
SHORTAGE OF TEACHERS. Announcement by the national commissioner of eduction that there is a shortage of C8.000 teachers in the United States is not reassuring to persons who believe that the development of American schools is the bulwark of progress and prosperity. Low salaries continue to repel many ambitious young men and women who would be attracted to the classroom were the compensation just, and it la Mr. Ciaxton's statement that 65,000 teachrs are now employed who are below standard requirements. This indisputably means that our schools are below the minimum grade of excellence. It is a warning that we dare not travel far along this path. One problem of teachers' wages will never be fatisfactorily adjusted until their occupation is placed on the stable basis of all-year employment. Now teachers are paid for from eight to 10 months' service and during the remainder of the year are compelled to live upon what they may have saved while employed, with the alternative of finding temporary employment for the summer. This should not be. The teacher should be enabled to devote all her time to the interest of the BChool. and as the idea of the school as a social center grows the school house will become a II months' service station for good citizenship. A shortage of 3S.0O0 teacher g reveals that the problem must be met. The way is clear.

THE only secret between SOME of our neighbor women friends IS what they actually THINK oT each other AND they keep it pretty quist.
Revitalize your blood and put your system in condition to resist the hardships of winter. It is the strong-bodied vigorous men and women who are vigorous and healthy in winter, and who are not inconvenienced by the cold wet days. Wet feet don't bother them, sudden changes cause no inconvenience, and even when a cold is "caught," because of contact, in a close, stuffy room, with some one already infected, the trouble seldom lasts over a day or two. This highly desired state of health is brought about by having rich, pure

tf any kind. You may possib'y think your blood Is all right you are not troubled by
outward signs. Yet you have felt tired and languid, you have lost some sleep or had some minor ailments at times, but you regard yourself as in "fairly good condition physically." This may be true, but you should take nothing for granted, you should not "guess" that you are all right. The thing to do is to make yourself right by taking a good blood tonic and Invigorator, such as S. S. S. It is the best known blood tonic on the market today. There is hardly a man or

Famo Stops Baldness It Kills Seborrhea the Scourge of Healthy Hair
Tew need no longer be alarmed at the fJlin out of your hair. There la actually a way to prevent it. SHgnce discovered that the scourge of baldness was due to Seborrhea, the disease that produces dandruff. Two yeara ago science found Famo. The formula was worked out and perlbrted as a specific for baldness, in coe of the oldest pharmaceutical laboratories in Detroit.
Seborrhea produces dandruff and kills the hair. Famo grows new healthy hair by making the scalp healthy. The action of Famo is not that of a hair lotion or a massage which rube out the dandruff. Famo immediately penetrates the scalp. It feeds the glands that nourish the roots of the hair.
It was given a rigid test in the hands of reputable hair specialists. Its efficiency was proven in scores of cases in private practice long before It was given to the world at lart. Seborrhea undoubtedly causes bald-
