WHITING and its PEOPLE The Whiting l'arent-Teai ners Association will meet tomorrow eening at the High School Auditorium at 7:30 O'clock. Church will give a coin social at the home of the Misses Prltchard In Sheridan avenue tomorrow evening. The M . E. Choir practice will take place at the church tomorrow evening. Miss Clara Cromh who taught in the Whiting schools last year, has nowtaken a position in the Irving wchool at Hammond. Miss S. C. Browning who also taught here last year !s teaching at HobaVt this year. Otto tiilbert who was arrested for assault and battery on his wife was arraigned before Judge Green 0n last Tuesday and given ten minutes to get out of town. Needless to say Gilbert "beat it." His wife is self-supporting having a position at the Standard Oil Co. Alex Koralowskl. arrested by officer Fitzgerald for being drunk, failed to appear for trial and forfeited his bond. Mrs. Russell who has spent several months visiting at the home of her daughter in Illinois, has returned to at the home of her daughter. Mrs. Herbert Morris in Sheridan avenue. Andy Oanic arrested by officer BelIan for being drunk was fined Jl and costs, upon payment of which he was released . Mr. Henry Biesen of Oliver street, visited his wife at the Mercy hospital in Chicago, on Tuesday evening and found her improving but slowly. Mrs. Go. A. Mrs. Grlndle entertained the B ble Class of the Christian church at her home In Atchison avenue on Tuesday evening. Pumpkin pie and coffee was served. A most delightful time was enjoyed. Mrs. Grindle has succeeded Mrs. Curry as Bible school teacher. Rev. Wise of the Christian church Is In Cincinnati where he is attending a convention. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Eaton of the West Park Addition spent Sunday In Glen Ellyn. 111., visiting Mr. and Mrs. Bruce N. Nichols. The Whiting Chapter Eastern Stars, entertained their Grand Matron. Mrs. Cora B. Holland of Indianapolis, at a very elaborate social function, at 6:30 a course baq-iet was served at the Christion church. The Masonic hall had been very artistically decorated with baskets of flowers and numerous floor lamps giving a most inviting appearance and a pleasant welcome for the Grand Matron and other guests. The work of the evening was lovely and during th initiatory. Mrs. Edward J. Evans sang several beautiful sulos. Following the business of the evening refreshments consisting of frappe and cakes were served. Included In the guests were the Past Grand Patron, Col. Joseph R. Harrison of Columbia City, Ind.. who Is now stationed with the troops at East Chicago, and several of his soldier boys. There were also Mr. and Mrs. Bonham. LIQUOR VIOLATOR IS ARRESTED The arcst of Edward Kukowskl. a Gary constable, on the charge of belriK a state liquor law violator was made by the Gary police early this morning. Tht police gni a tip from a South Chicago source, that Zukowskl was on his way j i. ary with a load of booio and paraj pheinnlia for the distilling of liquors, j and the officers laid in wait for him and at 4:30 this morning he drove up to Eleventh and Washington, when h was placed under arrest with several quarts of whiskey, liquor coloring and c.ie empty ktg and was carted to the station. Zukowskl has been under arrest on the same charges on several t.-ther occasions. Other arrests made on state liquor law violators was John Novina, Thirtyseventh end Mississippi; John Kocklck, Thirty-sixth and Mississippi; Steve Jursa. 921 Washington St., and Kalman Nagy.
