REGION GETS TWO DELEGATES
The Calumet region landed two of the d.-legates from the Northwestern Indiana Conference of the M. E. church '-o the general conference of the M. 1churches of the world which will be held a' pes Moines, la. At the buslnes session of the conference yesterday at Frankfort. C. Oliver Holmes of Gary was named one of the five lay delegates and Rev. T. J. Bassett if Hammond, one of the five ministerial delegates. Marvin Campbell of South Eend on whom the Calumet region also has a strong claim is also a lay delegate. At thcsession yesterday afternoon the laymen and ministers met together instead of holding separate mee"ings as had betn planned. The spf-akers on the laymen, program refused to deliver their addresses before the larger body with the exception of Charles Surprise of Hammond. His address -n "Law Enforcement and The Church was the first on the program and made such a hit that he has already had three invitations to give it at other cities.

Evans Woollen, president of the Fletcher Savings and Trust company here and former federal fuel administrator for Indiana, may be a democratic candidate for governor, It is rume-red. There has been an effort for some time to make Woollen a candidate for the senate but recently this has been turned into an effort to persuade him that he should become a candidate for governor. Another rumor has It that Mr. Woollen will be appointed secretary of commerce by President Wilson to succed Secretary Bedfield. There are some democrats who believe he may receive this appointment snd also become a candidate for governor.

FRENCH WANT LEAGUE TO MEET
INTERNATIONAL NEWS SERVICE PARIS. October 4 In the belief that the league of nations ought to mett as son as possible. Premier Clemenceau, has written a letter to Col. E. M. House, of the American peace delegation, suggesting that the first meeting be hel din Washington in November. The press interprets M. Clemenceau'g letter as meaning that the Trench premier believe sthat it is necessary for the league of nations to come into operation at the earliest possible moment. The Figaro, in commentinr upon the letter, points to the Fiume incident. This paper says: "A compromise assuring Italy possession of Fiume in fact while it is theoretically under control of the league of nations law would appear impossible. "
