And again: "The more I think of the matter the more I am convinced that the majority of the Wallacks (Roumanians) are true Dacians." (J. Paget, vol cit. p. 74). Xow would the Hungarian take the ridiculous position to say that they were in Transylvania before the Dacians? It is very clear that the Roumanians are the real owners of the parts f Hungary named: Transylvania and Banat. and not only by the right or "first possession" but by an absolute majority. "The country is inhabited by the Hungarians or the Magyars who established themselves there In the 9th century, and by other races which Immigrated there later," says the Hungarians. The other races immigrated there? But If we take in consideration the fact that "There is. among the -Wallacks. a peculiar tenocity to localities. which, besides maintained them In this land! where Goths. Vandals and Huns, In vain tried to gain a permanent footimr. still attaches them, notwithstanding the injuries and injustice to which they are exposed, so forcibly to their native .villages, that if a possibility of exisiance remain, they rarely quit them." Paget, ibid., p. 91). This Is directly opposite to the Hungarians' theory of immigration. "This tenacity is an lm-' portant fact, and ought to make the Magyars very cautious how they attempt to force prematurely any reform ;n language, religion, or custom, on such people" js the advice Mr. Paget Is giving the Magyar chauvinists. A refutation of the immigration theory as per Mr. Seton-Va tson "The Rise of Nationality in the Balkans" he says: "Perhaps theest proof that the Roumanians tide did not set from south to north, as Magyar apologists argue, but from north to south. Is supplied by the position of the various capitals. In Walachia. the original centres were Cimpufung and furtea de Arges, which have superseded first by Tirgovistea and finally by Bucuresti, while the capital of Moldovia was tranferred from its original seat in Suceava (in what is now Bukovina) to Jassy. .In each case it is a gradual descent from the northern mountains into the plans of the Ianubian system." (p. 5S). In the times of barbarian Invasions, the only place where the Roumanians could find a refuge was the "arpatian mountains, or in other word: Transylvania'." So the Hungarians "immigration" theory is very fictitious. "Life and time mingled the various races in Hungary incessantly. Other minglings were' accentuated during the ISth century aad as one finds there now side by side Protestant. Catholic, Jew and Orthodox, similarly there are in Hungary, in the same region members of five or six nationalities." further argue the Hungarians. This mingling business is not a natural one. but artificial. The Hungarian masters, in their criminal attempt in order to supress and .extinguish other nationalities have planted Hungarian colonies thcoush Transylvania and Banat. Evidence can be found in the Hungarian parliamentary record; but the attempt failed, and instead of magyarzing the other nationalities the Hungarian colonists have drowned in the seas of non-Magyars. So the minorities of Hungarian people from the.se territories are the result of a criminal attempt on the lives of Roumanians. Slovaks and Serbs, and these r.ationalitiesVan not be blamed for this. They say further: "Of course imperialism manufacture? its own apparently Just reason to explain its unprincipled pretensions. Hungary's neighbors claim that the nationalities in Hungary have been oppressed. There is no space available to refute this accusation, but what sort of an oppression could it have been that made it possible for all. these races to increase in number, to keep their language and rational individuality? . . ." And the only way to do this is by liberating the non-Magyar nations from the hand of Hungarians, and as soon as Hungary is cured of its chauvinism, the Hungarians would Immediately become sane. The Roumanian claims as shown above, are based on the Eistorlcal as well as etnologlcal rights.
