With the announcement that Paul Tarduhn was planning to keep his fontball team at the White Sox park in Chicago, Hammond football f-ns wore becoming: worried. They feared Hammond "vas to gro throufrh the season without a rtruiar tiome team. Such is mt the case. Hammond has Reads of good material in the share of former stars .f hifh school and collepe fame anj these are preparing to keep the olU town on the football map. As chances for a home team wont glimmering- a number of former hish school and college players began talkinjr of a team. John Poll, who played center with the old dabby s for three years and last season with the Hammond team, was asked to Ret the bunch together. He will manage the team and play center. Anions the men he has lined up are Artie Hess, who played quarterback on the Indiana I'niverstiy tenia; Gavlt, for two years fullback on the high school team; Gluth, who played halfback on the Washington, l (. team last season: Warne, former halfback on the old Clabbys; Andy Maginot, with three years experience with the Colonial A. C. ; "Witter, captain and halfback on the high school team in 1916; Gray, ths speedyend of the Colonials in the pt years, and Winters. Itower and Taylor, all men w ho have made names of the high school teams. Mere players are being located each day. Manager Doll expects to start practice at once in order to have the team ready for the opening of the season. It" is still doubtful whether the Hammond athletic park can be used for the games so for the rresetit it is planned to play at Harrison park.

BURMAN WINS EASILY FROM BILLY BEVANS

PHILADELPHIA. Pa.. Sept. IS. J--e Burman. Chicago's aspirant for the bantamweight crown, easily defeated Billy Bevans of Wi'.kesbarre last nisrht in the windup at the Olympia A. A. turman was master of the upstate lad during the entire six rounds. Bevans' peculiar crouching style with his head down and coifred by both gloves saved him from a knockout, for Burman hit fcim almost at will in the face.

The dexterious St. Cyrill aKtrr.-:i t icn easily defeated the fast Peerless Athletic Club at the Kast Chicago hall park by a score of 4 to 2. making it their fourteenth victory and claiming the amateur championship of the rouMly. The Cyrills started the game in their usual fashion. Stufko getting a twosacked on th.- first ball pitched. John Walsko then Inyiiig down a safe lu.nt scored the first tally. The Peerless came back in their half of the first and tied the count by a pass to Methane and a threi-ba.se hit by Krupa. The Oil Cl!y boys came back strong in the third, filling the bases with hits by Stufko and Kamlnsky and a walk by J. Walsko, McClelland then came up and delivered a blow over short for two bases, scoring Stufko and Walsko. Frank Simon then replaced Komoo in the box. From here on the game v n: a pitcher's duel between Simon anl Cole. Cole easily outclassed his rivals with his fast southpaw delivery, getting nine strikeouts and allowing only four hiis. while the Whiting: lads found Romeo and Simon for eight safeties. The St. Cyrill infield "was there" In regular form, handling everything that came at them. The clever John Hodney starr-d at first in his usual form. John Walsko performed at second wi'h his usual pep and energy. While Kuminslty and V. Podney took care of all that was sent at them in great style. The boys in the outer garden showed up well. Seniancik in ri,ght getting five putouts and one double play. Stufko the fast and clever centerftelder handled one and all coming his direction like Tyrus Cobb himself would have done. The St. Cyrills will leave for Cleveland on the 26th where they will meet the fast St. Andrews Athletic Club of that city. Score by innings: St. Cyrills 1 0 2 0 1 0 0 0 0 4 Peerless A. By JACK VEIOCX (International Maws S. Sport Editor.) NEW YOKE, S pt. 111. The major league pennant nu ts die all over but the shouting today. The White Sox have a bad of eight games over the sp-nnd place Indians in the American league and the Ji.ds. byvirtue of their victory over the (liants are now nine games ahead. It is only a question of time now until the pMinant races will be ox r for nothing short of an earthquake can stop the pace-making teams. As the teams stand today the Sox must win four of their eleven renia'iiing games to winMhe flag, providing Cleveland should win twelve straight. Should the Sox lose eleven straight gamex the Indians would still have to win nine out of twelve to nose them out. The marathon in the National league is a bit farther advanced because the Keds have hiui ii'.orc games than the Sox. Should the Giants win all 12 of the remaining games. 1'at Muisn's bos would have to win three of th nine they must piny to finish a not-c ah :((! of New York.
