believed. The announment of candidates cannot fall to be followed by a discussion of Issues. National Issues, of course, are In the limelight, but atate Issues are none the less clean cut. The battle in the state will hinge around the so-called "centralisation" Ideas of the present administration. This will be the main point of attack used by the Democrats who will be placed on the offensive because they will be confronted with the task of attempting to remove a party already in power. Mr. McCray Is looked upon by both

Democrats and Republicans as a strong candidate. He made an excellent showing in his attempt to secure the nomination in 1916. He is expected to xnaae an exceptionally strong appeal to the farmers. The farmers are admittedly a bit ruffled at this time over the tax law, but administration leaders repeatedly express their confidence that this will pass over when reductions in rates are an

nounced. It is certain that the Demo- j crats will do everything in their power j

more frequently mentioned recently than any other probable candidate with tha exception of McCray. In fact, MA Klauss and Mr. McCray are the onl Republican candidates who are verjr much In the limelight at this time. Xr some quarters It is rumored that Edward Toner of Anderson has deilnltely decided not to be a candidate. On the Democratic side the only aatltity that has been disccrnable thus l-T Is the announcement that )hn Isenbei'fer of North Manchester would be a candidate. This announcement created veV little stir. Charles A. Groalhous 1

looked upon here as the ultimate Democratic candidate for governor, but it Js ald he will hesitate to become a candidate unloss he believes he will have some chance of winning. The special session of the legislature which Gov. Goodrich is expected to 111 next month, also must be taken lnift consideration. It is hard to say what will be done at the session, but there tit no dojbt that both sides will attempt to make political capital of whatever Is dn. Gov. Goodrich has said nothing con

cerning the special session recently, but

he promised some time ago that It would be called early in October.
