THE retail merchant's sphere of usefulness is sharply defined by his ability to make prompt delivery. In the days before motor trucks came into general use, his progress was measured, not by his vision, initiative or merchandizing ability, but by the speed and endurance of horse flesh. With the automobile and truck came a constantly widening field of activity quicker deliveries were possible. A widened service meant more and better satisfied customers and the merchant was able to expand his business to the utmost. The Standard Oil Company (Indiana) has been an important factor in making this expansion possible. By anticipating the demands for gasoline and lubricating oil, it was prepared to supply these necessary products to merchants, even in remote places. Further, the very feature of wide distribution and low price of gasoline has enabled the small merchant to utilize power-driven delivery. Thus has the Standard Oil Company (Indiana) been an important factor in the expansion of business by helping the little merchant to become big, and the people in remote corners to have the advantages of cities. How well the Company has functioned may be judged by its size, for no concern could have reached the proportions of the Standard Oil Company (Indiana) without rendering an important and definite service to the public. London Bout Draws a Big Crowd; Fulton Knocks Out Townley in First.
By JACK TEIOCK (International Nw Sport Editor.) NEW TURK. Sept. 3. Joe Beckett doesn't trot In the same class with Jack Ifmpsfi.v, teh Shit Lake terror. Boxing fans on this side of the Atlanta are expressing this opinion today, following ilecketfs bout with Eddie MoCoorty at tthe Olympia Coliseum In Lnrdn. The fact that McCoorty stayed 17 rounds with the -British champion has furnished American followers of the fistic game with a pretty fair line on the ability of lleckctt. whose class was a point in doubt prior to last night. Accounts of the battle Indicate that Beckett was Mciloorty's master, hut it would appear that he lacks the aggressiveness and punching power of the world's champi.m. or he would hae disposed of the veteran Milwaukee boxer In short order. McGoorty is "0 years old and has been fighting for 1 4 VfHrji. He has not been an active boxer in the last four or five years, though lie did some campaigning in Australia. Hecktt is admittedly at the top of his form. The fact that Mctloorty hit Beckett flush on the jaw in the third round with one of his erstwhile left handers and failed to drop him indicates that he has gone back a long ways. In the old days McGoorty was one of our best punchers. So the comparison furnished by the Beekett-McGoorty bout leaves but little in the Britisher's favor except that he came away the winner.

Kay Fisher. Although Ray Fisher hasn't been doinff much recently on the hill for the leafTJo leading Reds he may be of considerable value to Pat Moran if the Reds earn the right to enter the world series which seems likely. Fisher, during his years of service witn the Yankees, pitched to practically all of the players now in the Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland lineups. Consequently he knows the
weaknesses and peculiarities of the I
sluggers. ,o matter which team ccps, he will be able to tip off his brother hurlers even if he doesn't break into the big series himself.

OSWEGO IS WELL PLEASED
KLAGSTEAD, Cobb and Co. trimmed th White Sox In 16 innings. The youn? fielder's double In the seventh brought Cobb home with the winning unit. THE Giants. Dodders, TRnkees. Red Sox. Hraves and Thillies were shut out by Jul Pluvius.
Georpe Oswepo reports th-'t the boxing contest was a success in eery way. Although the crowd was not as large as could b desired. i4 was of a fair size and was so orderly that Oswego is very
i j optimistic about the crowds for future bouts. Only a few ladies were in atj tendance at the contest Monday but due j to the fact that the show was conducted j without any friction, it is expected that I more ladies will attend the next one.
The definite date for the next fight has not yet been set but i! will probably be between the l.Vh and i'Oth of this month. In all probability "Tomtrie Tairue of Hammond will be one of the headliners in Xhf next show.

Many market fishermen seemingly are
not aware of the law that provides that any seine of over 200 yards in length cannot be used in Illinois waters without a state warden being there to supervise the throwing back of small and jcanie fishes. Fishermen ignoring this law are heading for a lot of trouble. Finally. Illinois anglers going over into Indiana should get an Indiana nonresident fishing license, which costs only 51. The Indiana wardens have a dragnet out and are taking several Illinois fishermen every day, especially those who iish Wolf lake and other waters just over the line. If you are caught fishing in Indiana without a license it will set you back about fifty big iron men. Indiana licenses may be bought from the larger tackle shors in Chicago and tackle departments of the bis: State
street stores.
