GARY POLICE START STRICT
CAMPAIGN
That the Gary police department intends to see that the new parkins ordinance is to be obeyed was in evldenc; over the week-end when nearly twenty violators were placed under arrest. Aireft sheets show that the majority reside outside, of the city, a number were uary residents. When tht ordinance went into effect several weeks agf, it was thought advisQ'nle. to give the autotsts sufficient time ui acquaint themse!ts with it and not b-- too drastic. Now every driver ought '. - know whether or not he is violating hi law and henceforth the police intend to see that it is enforced. All violators are to be treated alike, no matter who they are or where they live. "Do not park here" signs are in eviene at all the. street intersection in t!v business district on Broadway and why the autoists insist on parkin fn the prohibited area, is a mystery to the authorities. As long as they violate this ordinance, the police are going to wage war atainst the practice. Acting upon instructions, the patrolmen started the campaign Saturday m;rning. CONGESTION AT YARDS RELIEVED
Congestion at the Kirk yards in Gar.", which was tied up for two weeks as a result of the shopmen's walkout. Is be
ginning to be relieved and several more J
days will see traffic conditions on the. E. J. it E. system normal again, according to officials of that road today. After the settlement of the strike Friday, the men wont back to work at o'clock in the afternoon and got things in ship shape for the bulk of the shopmen who were on the job right and early Saturday morning. There were in iho neighborhood of 1009 cars of coal, stono and steel products tied up. First efforts of the railroad was to get the car shipments to the Gary works and its subsidary plants which were the worst to suffer the strike. In anticipation of a settlement the mills started getting its departments ready on Thursday arid with the arrival of car shipments, the staff of workmen were increased and by the end of the week conditions at tha mill will probably be back to normal again. The slab and Plata mills called all their men back en the job this morning and all departments will be working regular shifts again in several days. Preparations are also made to start all of tho blast furnaces and the open hearths. The shopmen are watching with interest today the outcome of the conference of the national agreement committee with Mr. Hines on tho subject of making wage adjustment demanded by the workers. The conference will probably take place Tuesday. The wage demands made by the shop craftsmen are: Ioeomotive and coach mechanics, from 68 cents to So cents per hour; helpers, from 4S to 6f cents; car mechanics, from 5S to S3 cents pr hour: machinists, boilermakers. blacksmiths, sheet metal workers, from 65 to 8.' cent? per hour.

Big Sale at Harbor Starts on Wednesday With the Kroupa Dollar Sale. The biggest dollar sale which opens Wednesday at East Chicago at Krupa's big department store will surpass any other dollar day event ever held in Lake county. To the people of this section of the country: Tou can well afford to lay in a supply of good clean seasonable merchandise for a year to come. One dollar will buy as much as three dollars will elsewhere at any store in East Chicago. Do not class this bonafide sale with other sales held in East Chicago. Krupa's $35,000 stock is marked to fit the dollar and not the dollar to fit the goods. This is a chance of a lifetime to help reduce the high cost of living. Tha big dollar sale is being conducted by the Fletcher Mercantile Co, the world's greatest price wreckers in the Vnited States and they have strict instructions to slaughetr merchandise for 10 days.
